Hotels in Vienna

I am planning a trip to Vienna (6 nights) with my elderly mother for early November. I'm searching hotels in the Stephansdom and Hofburg quarters. There must be an elevator and no stairs to climb, private bath with WC and shower. I would like a sense of Viennese charm, but I can't afford the Bristol. In addition, my young-adult daughter will be joining us probably for three of the nights. These hotels seems the most interesting:
Remischer Kaiser Wein
Royal
Am Shubertring
Pension Aviano
Pension Neuer Makt
Does anyone have any comments about or experience with any of these? Or do you have other suggestions?
Thanks!

Romischer is OK but a little bit chintzy and dated, but clean enough. Royal is a dump and will be noisy being right on Stephansplatz, Pension Aviano is under same ownership as Pension Pertschy, but latter has been done up more recently. Schubertring looks dated from outside, but may be OK but on a veery noisy junction - ring road and Schwarzenbergplatz - rooms on inside may be OK, Neumarkt was the biggest dump of about 20 hotels I checked out while I lived in Vienna (left June).
If you want a certain chintz go for Pension Pertschy but inside rooms - outside facing a narrow street, you will get noise of buses and horses and horse shit smells.
If you can go up on budget a bit, then for some old fashioned style go for Kaiserin Elizabeth or Konig von Ungarn. Both super convenient and better quality than all of those you refer to.

I have stayed at Konig von Ungarn twice and thought about recommending it to you. It is a wonderful small hotel, dripping with friendliness and tons of character and charm. But I suppose it is a little more than you wanted to spend.

Reading what Travelnick says about your other choices, I'd be inclined to recommend it -- so long as you can up the budget slightly.

thanks for the information. the konig von ungarn was also on my list, but it doesn't show up often on the discounter web sites. i plan to call and speak with them directly. i think i'll be able to afford it, although it's higher than I had hoped. I've also searched the elizabeth, but the rates seem considerably higher. one last question...i've found great internet rates for le meridien wein...looks very modern and upscale (5*??), but with low rates and 6th night free. would it be a good choice? I think I'd rather have something a little more schmaltzy, for my mother's sake, but perhaps we should opt for ultra modern and good bathrooms. What do you think?

Not only will it not likely show up on discounter sites, but you will rarely find a travel agent booking it. They once told me that they pay absolutely no commissions to travel agents or anyone else. Their advertising is very minimal, yet they maintain an almost total occupancy rate. Your biggest problem is likely to be will they have any rooms available -- period?

Thanks for all the comments and advice....In the end, I decided to go in a different directions: I found the Meridien Wein, brand new art + tech hotel near Staatsopera; It is scheduled to open on 11/11 and we arrive on 11/14. The introductory rate is 135 euros for all rooms (i think there are web sites for slightly less). I called the hotel directly and spoke with a very friendly and helpful man who offered an upgraded room for the same money to book directly with the hotel. It's not the type of hotel I was planning to use in Vienna -- I wanted more schmaltz; but since I can't afford first class schmaltz, I think this will be fun. And I think I'll be guarateed a clean room!

Near the Staatsoper, you'll be very near the Sacher Hotel. Do yourself and your mother a big favor and go for lunch or afternoon tea. You'll get a wonderful dose of schmaltz at the Sacher. It's beautiful. I saw Catherine Deneuve there . . . having lunch!

Ah, yes, the Sacher with the very famous Sacher Torte -- probably the driest, most uninspired piece of cake I ever ate. But their coffee was good.

We just booked the Pension Pertschy after doing lots of research on this board. They offer non smoking rooms and "quiet" rooms. They do charge a bit more (maybe 5 or 10 euro per night for a double) for these. They were wonderful to work with over email.

Meridien will be pretty impressive in all likelihood - palace style a la Imperial. Great opening rate.
