Good morning, Stayed at the La Femice
many years ago during opera season, found it to be a wonderfully small
hotel, excellant accomodations, tho
not large rooms and service. In
later years each time I tried to get
reservations, were full up. Still would
return. Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

I liked the America pretty well - especially the location. The rooms weren't amazing, but we had a balcony overlooking the canal - which was very fun. The bathroom was extremely small - but hey, it's the bathroom - as long as you can get the door closed, who cares? And breakfast was good. All in all,a decent value.

I just returned from Venice... stayed at The Giorgione. Excellent recommendation from this site. Had a corner room with 2 windows, big clean bathroom, great breakfast incl. and free internet access. We were there for May Day, Venice was more crowded than I had ever seen it, so I was glad of the quiet around this hotel. Decent restaurants, too. Deluxe double room 210euro.

Havenot stayed at the Metropole. I stopped into the American on one of my trips because it looked so nice. It's not as centrally locateda s the others but Venice is so small that it really doesn't matter. The American really looks lovely - some comments here have said that the rooms really vary - but if you discuss this when you make your reservation, you should be ok.

I've stayed at La Fenice once a few years ago and liked it alot. I was with a friend - my room was fine - his was spectacular. On the top floor with a patio (not just a balcony but a patio!) It's much closer to San Marco but hidden away so it's quiet.

Either one is fine.

Dona

We stayed at the American 2 weeks ago. We loved the location - I would recommend staying away from San Marco - very crowded and noisy. Did you try Hotel San Barnaba? It has gotten wonderful reviews and we visited the San Barnaba area and thought it was charming. I thought the American was overpriced for the room we had - 450,000L w/canal view. If you stay there, ask for one of the newly renovated rooms.
