Hotels in Santorini
Hello,
I'm deciding between 2 hotels in Santorini. 1) is Irini's villas resort http://www.greekhotel.com/cyclades/s...irini/home.htm
2) sunset hotel http://www.sunsethotel.gr/
anyone stayed in these hotels before? or know anything about them? the price is about the same for both.
thanks

I looked at the reviews for both on tripadvisor mostly positive reviews.
here is the situation, I've emailed irini's a few days ago, didn't get a reply, then I sent in an online reservation, they emailed back said they have a room for 2 people. However, a couple of hour before I got the email, I called the hotel to ask if there's any room for my date, they told me no. Should I be concerned now all of a sudden there's a room? I think the owner has other hotels too, are they just going to put me in another hotel?

The thing about the Irini is that it's in Imervogli, more isolated, might hve to taxi to restaurants etc or stand waiting at bus stop. The other is in Firostephani... quiet but easy walk from Fira.
In late May we stayed at Kafieris Apts/Hotel on the caldera ... people we befriended on the ferry came with us to the hotel, they had no room but our desk guy called his sister at Sunset and VOILA! They Loveed it! Had a little room right off the huge common roof terrace... and we all enjoyed the sunset one night, with a bottle of wine, sitting in cushioned wicker loveseats. A LOT more comfy than public bus to Oia, and standing in a pathway. Sunset has only about 9 rooms I think but certainly nice... AND the entry is right off a pathway, few steps. Handy to several nice restaurants... an italian on and a well-regarded greek one, Aktiaion?? Kafieris is also nice if u get one of the rooms with a caldera-view balcony.

That is what we LOVED about staying in Imervogli- the silence was priceless. You could almost hear your heart beat. I'll never forget it. We walked everywhere, except to Oia. And the walks were stunning. There are restaurants nearby. You didn't mention who you are traveling with- but in general, Imervogli caters more to a maturer romantic crowd.

Well, SoCalOC, that gives her a choice ... she has not been that specific about the ambience she wants... in a previous thread she mentioned "dh" which is Fodor-Code for "Dear Husband." (a too-cute usage in my opinion, but it seems to be a habit here). Anyway In another thread, not here, she also mentioned that they have 3 nights in Santorini... so that may impact how much time they have for walks. Now she can choose.

Hello all, thanks for the replies. Yes travelerjan is correct, I will be travling with my husband, we are pretty active, so we def won't mind the walking, actually looking forward to it. I want to do the hike to skaros. My main concern was the hotel being booked, I don't want to be send to another complex. I have emailed them to confirm it's the irini's villa resort im getting, but didn't get an answer yet. I have read on tripadvisor that 1 couple was sent to another hotel because it was overbooked. The owner told them he owned both hotels "he had the right to change the reservation!"
I know that's only 1 bad review out of 20 reviews, guess we will wait to hear back from them, hopefully soon. I have also booked the sunset hotel just in case, since no cancellation free before 14days.

Hi snowchick- if your 'gut' is continually giving you a feeling of mistrust- you might want to follow it. My post was basically, just to give you a feel of a particular location in Santorini. It is absolutely so breathtakingly beautiful there- you really can't go wrong, IMO. Cheers!
