Hotels in Paris

Hi -- I am going to Paris in May. We're staying a week, including 2 days of going to the French Open. Can anyone suggest hotels that are close to everything (1st-8th arrondisement), including close to French Open transport? Cost isn't the issue, but we prefer smaller places to the mega-hotels. Thank you!

Whatever hotel you choose, make your reservations NOW! May is a busy month in Paris, and many hotels will already be full.

That listing is just them giving directions on how to get there by many different metro lines in Paris. It appears the French Open is in the 16th arr. (at Stade Roland Garros, I'd imagine which is somewhat west of the Porte d'Auteuil metro stop. There are obviously many ways of getting there,k as you can see, the easiest being line 10, perhaps.

There are lots of places you can stay near a line 10 metro stop -- this would be near the Sevres/Babylone, Mabillon, Odeon, Cluny, or Maubert stops in arrondisements 5-7.

For hotel suggestions, there are tons of nice ones in St-Germain that should be suitable -- the Hotel Madison would be convenient, for one.

We once stayed at a very nice hotel in the 16th, the Regent's Garden. It was built by Napoleon for his doctor and his been nicely maintained in the style of a private home. Among other amenities is a nice garden at the back. Just down the street is a very good Italian restaurant, and almost across the street is a small market for things like bottled water and fresh fruit.

As for a room on the first (i.e., second to us) floor; they are larger and some are elegantly decorated.

I just stayed at a very small hotel in the 1st arrondisment called "Hotel Louvre Montana". It is on Rue Saint Roch right off Rue de Rivoli. Four rooms to a floor but it was very clean and friendly.
