Hotels in Mykonos or Santorini
My husband and I are planning an anniversary weekend in Greece. I've never been there and have these romantic visions of a white cliffside hotel. However, many of the hotels I've looked up are very, very expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice, romantic seaside hotel that is less than 300 Euros/night?
Also, I will be traveling from London...what is the best way to reach the islands?
All and any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kyra
I've therefore used the dates 26th to 30th June and found these available:
Apollonia Hotel (5 star boutique) at Agios Ioannis (where Shirley Valentine was filmed). A great area, superb sea views, quiet but only about 8 minutes into town by a little bus that runs half-hourly until 1am (300 euro for a deluxe room including breakfast)

Cavo Tagoo (high above Mykonos town, 15 minutes stroll). Previous guests have been Fonda and Streisand. For a five-night stay with breakfast 320 euro per night.

The Harmony Hotel on a hill overlooking Mykonos town above the old port ( a 10 minute stroll into town). Its rates are within your budget but you'll need to contact them for availability as they don't have online reservations.

Palladium Hotel at Platys Yiallos. 260 euro per night including breakfast. This is out of town. Perhaps 20 minutes by local bus. Great area and close to a superb beach.

easyJet fly to Mykonos from London three times a week.
If I had to choose it would be the Apollonia!

I apologise, I also was going to give you this address that lists almost all hotels and shows their prices for 2009 plus ratings:

It may interest you to know that the hotel is called after a phenomenon I've mentioned here before. Just a few steps from the hotel is the the small church of St John, sitting right next to the tiny little harbour. From that harbour you can occasionally see a strange light on the surface of the sea between Agios Ioannis and Delos, birthplace of Apollo. The locals call this the 'Apollonia effect' and apparently it is because, they maintain, this narrow straight of sea is one of three places on earth where the sun is at its brightest.
I researched this years ago and found another spot is in Australia but I can't for the life of me recall the location of the third.
