"Not-too-pricey" means what to you? You'll get much better responses if you state what type of room you're looking for, and what your specific price range is.

If you type "marais and hotel and a/c" in the text search box, you'll get over 200 threads (!) Suggest you browse through some of these, take a look at Rants & Raves on this site, maybe also look at hotel listings on Frommers and Time Out on-line and/or some guidebooks ("Great Sleeps in Paris" has lots of reasonably-priced choices with detailed descriptions). Then post with a "short list", if you still have questions.

I can't recommend anything from personal stays, but I do know that there are very very few not-too-pricey hotels with AC in the Marais. There just aren't. These are about your only choices (only ones I know of with AC in what I would call the Marais):

Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais
Hotel Axial Beaubourg
Hotel Bourg Tibourg
Hotel Jardin de Paris Marais
Paris Rivoli (some rooms)

of course, the expensive Pavillon de la Reine does.

I advise people to do a search sometimes also on a specific hotel name or something unique, but I don't think this kind of general search is really very useful. In fact, those are not very good research skills exhibited because that is bad advice -- you CANNOT USE SPECIAL CHARACTERS IN SEARCH WORDS!!!! That search results in 200 posts (and who wants to look at that many) BECAUSE IT IS WRONG ADVICE. The term "a/c" is terrible for a search because of the slash, so the search tool ignores that term and in essence, I believe you are searching on the words marais and hotel. There are a few people who repeatedly give out bad advice on how to search on here, using terms and phrases that cannot possibly work.

If you do want to do a search for this, you might use "marais and hotel and air" or "marais and hotel and conditioning" or "marais and hotel and AC". You'll miss some that way. Actually, it would probably work to simply search on the word "caron" within France because that's a very popular hotel in the Marais and one of the few with AC, so it will appear in threads on that subject.

Several years ago, we stayed at the Hotel Place Des Vosges. We enjoyed it very much (despite somewhat small rooms) and it was relatively inexpensive for the location. I don't believe it has air conditioning, but we were there in August and were never uncomfortable.

Christina is absolutely right that the slash in a/c is something that the seach function doesn't like; I'd forgotten that and her suggestion to substitute the word "air" is a good one. My apologies for the poor direction.

I'll respectfully disagreee that this sort of general search isn't worthwhile, at least as a starting point. I think that the ability to search through the wealth of information here is one of the most useful things about this board. Unfortunately, Fodor's provides no direction, so many people aren't aware that the search function even exists, or are unable to make it work for them.

I noticed that bjames5 had posted about half a dozen questions, mostly about Paris hotels, most rather vaguely worded and without many responses. So it was my intent to provide him/her with some assistance.
