See this month's Conde Bast Traveler for a description of the Hotel Brunelleschi. It is centrally located off of the Piazza della Republicca...
-
From a plethora of recent threads, there appears to be one frequently recommended hotel in Florence -- the Hotel Pendini.
Hello, Linda!
You are going to one of my favorite cities in the world. Florence has that specialness, that indescribable quality that sets it apart from anywhere else.
There is a grat website on Firenze at
http://english.firenze.net/turismo/ricerca_hotel.wbs
This site offers help with lodging, sightseeing, and the advance purchase of tickets to many of the museums (which I would certainly do for the Academie, to see The David, and The Uffizi, always long lines). It also have a virtual tour of the Ponte de Vecchio bridge, Uffizi courtyard, and Santa Croce. While limited, the "tours" are still enjoyable.
Give my regards to the Uffizi, IMHO one of the best art museums in the world.
Have a wonderful trip!
Gloria
Linda,
We have stayed at the Hotel Casci and have just made reservations to stay there again this fall. It is in a great spot, about 2 short blocks from the Duomo. The owners speak English and are beyond helpful. The son Paolo is wonderful. The rooms are clean and large with bath or shower, air condtioning and TV. There is no outside noise as they are located inside another building- hard to explain. The breakfast is very filling and included. It is Lit240000 per night or about $116 at today's exchange. There website is htpp:/www.hotelcasci.com. Check them out. Pam

We also wanted a clean convenient place and we ended up at the Prima Vera. We could walk to everything. It was very reasonable and served a nice breakfast, included in the price. The train staions always have a booth that will help you with your needs.

Hotel ALdini
Clean 2 star hotel. Nicest hotel I have stayed in Europe. ( I usually stay in inexpensive 2 star-hotels) The location is GREAT. It was around $60. Right next to Duomo.

Hotel Gallery Art is supposed to have exhibits that change regularly. Also, centrally located near Ponte Vecchio. We were considering there, but opted for Lungarno with it's balconies overlooking the Arno (both can be viewed at www.lungarnohotels.com)

to the top for Gail...

maybe if topping added "keywords"

budget florence hotels
budget florence hotel
budget hotel florence
budget hotels florence

Postscript: If this forum had an easier way to locate and direct readers to a specific (previous) posting by a unique identifier (timestamp), it would not be necessary to top (and repeat) information so tediously. This is my new crusade, and I am thinking about adding this postscript (when applicable) to every new reply I make here. If you agree with me, then please write to Danny Mangin or David Downing - - [email protected] - - and encourage them to move forward with this improvement (and any others they have up their sleeves) to this best-on-the-web travel forum!
I could not get reservations at the Lungarno which was my first choice and considered the Gallery Art. I am booked at the Savoy, the location seems good. I haven't seen any comments on this site, but it is very centrally located and newly renovated at the Piazza della Republica. Have you heard of it?

Where ever you stay, dont stay at "The Porta Rosa", we stayed there in November and it was so dirty and unsanitrary. What a nightmare, the staff, was rather rude as well.

We just returned from staying at Maisone de Charme - found it in "great sleeps in Italy". It is an "apartment" meaning it is privatly run, 5 rooms with private bath, sat tv, a/c, king bed and our room had a balcony. It is 1/2 block from the train station - which is ideal when arriving and is a great launching pad to sites - about 10-15 minute walk to everything.
We paid 88 euro per night - (no breakie, but a fridge in the room and kettle with tea bags and instant coffee). Would highly recommend it - she was booked up every night we were there.

We just returned from Italy and staying at Hotel Belletini in Florence. I highly recommend it. Large clean and quiet rooms, helpful staff (they made our dinner reservations for us and gave my husband local connection numbers to use his laptop), small TV's in the room to catch up on the news on CNN, great breakfast buffet, and a convenient location between the train station and the Duomo. Cost 124E per night.
