Hotels in Amsterdam

I am planning a weeklong trip to Amsterdam with husband and 20 year old child. Looking for an interesting hotel in a good location. Can you help?

All I know is that de l'Europe has an excellent restaurant (2*) and brasserie.
All three are in the heart of the city but I prefer the location of The Dylan which is somewhat quieter, as well as its size (40 rooms only).

Are you looking for a triple room - or a double and a single?

Sorry - We loved l'eruope but thy don't seem to have any triple rooms - you would have to take 2 and I think would be way above your budget then.

Have you checked if these hotels have rooms for 3 adults?

Good location for what? A lot depends on exactly how you plan to travel around the city. If you are looking to stay near a tram line, for example, you could do a lot better than some of the establishments you mention.
And exactly what do you mean by "interesting" anyway? Interesting architecture? Interesting location? Interesting interior decoration? I can think of hotels which meet all of those subjective requirements.

Thanks, all who answered!
By "interesting", I meant unique, not run-of-the-mill nice place, not overly fancy. By "good location", I meant mostly walking distance to museums, restaurants (but I'm sure we'll use the tram, too) or on canals. Interesting interior decoration would be good, though they don't need to be overly fancy.

Please tell me of the places you can think of.
Thank you,
S

The Hotel The Exchange (yes, odd name) is very unique. We had a good stay there a year ago. Each room is decorated differently, by art students, so it can be really interesting. Ours had a handbag theme, lol. But it was a good location for us, and the room was spotlessly clean, had a good setup, and the bathroom was nice. No complaints at all.

sw and family:

ZoeCat's post above speaks well for this one, as do we.

We were referred to this place several trips ago and were very impressed. Sheer charm, located on the banks of The Regulier Canal..close to Rijks Museum and walking distance to Am'Dam central. Should fit your budget. These web pages will tell all.

Thanks again. These places look great. My daughter (Zoe, as a matter of fact--to Zoecat).
Another question, how's the weather mid-March, typically? I know it won't be warm yet but much rain usually?

The Pulitzer is well located and very interesting...series of typical Ams homes all connected...great choice...also very nice and smaller The Torren or Sebastians on Kaisergraht ...excellent service and accommodations ...owned by the same family.

I stayed in Hotel de l'Europe in Strasbourg and really liked it a lot. It is an excellent location in a pedestrian area of Petite France, but you can walk to the cathedral area. My room was humongous (I had a corner room overlooking the street), I can't recall the category but since I was alone, it probably wasn't the largest. But it was very reasonably priced, anyway. Short taxi ride from train station, but I walked to the train station when I was doing a day trip to Nancy. The buffet breakfast was excellent.

You might enjoy the Toren, on the Keizergracht. It is a small boutique hotel in a central neighborhood. We have had wonderful visits twice in the 3 years and will soon be returning. It is maybe a bit over your stated budget but worth it.
