I stayed there twice and I love this hotel.
Unfortunately they're booked for the Saturday I need it this July.
I don't think that there're that many hotels less than 50 euros. I tried Roubaix this morning and it's booked. Hotel du Sejour is asking for 58 euros a night. I've not decided whether to bok with them.
eurocheapo.com has a longer list.

111op,
Take a look at the 2-star Hotel Central Montparnasse,
http://www.centralhotelparis.com/index.html
I stayed there one night last April. The room was small but perfectly fine, very clean, and the staff is lovely.
I've just checked, they have a room available for all Saturdays save for the 2nd (where you have to book 2 nights to get the lower price, or pay 60E for one night)in July for 50 E including breakfast, a very good deal, I think. It's located in a small street looking over a little square, very close to the Gare Montparnasse. It was very quiet, too, but I didn't need to open the window.
The location is not that charming but still good. There are some lovely streets close by with interesting architecture, leading to the beautiful Boulevard Raspail. Also, I think it's possible to walk to the St. Germain area and you have, of course, lots of Métro line very nearby.

In the 14th, you also have the Hotel Les Jardins D'Alésia, a very nice and lovely hotel in rue d'Alésia, 2-star hotel too, that have rates from 50€. They havea little court just near the newly renovated breakfast room, very nice to stay when it's sunny! Rooms are really clean, no problem with that...

Thanks for the suggestions. I still prefer being in arr. 1-4 since I need to stay out late. But I'll look into these hotels if I need to. I've a friend in Montmartre, so if I won't be so central anyway, I may just try to stay with him.

Budget hotels:
Hotel Mont Blanc (5th)
Single 55€

Fodorite review:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34496655
"..For a single with bath en suite, telephone, cable tv with remote, the price was 55 euros per night. Doubles are 72 euros. The room was plenty spacious. The hotel has been completely renovated and the rooms are spotless. The towels are all new and are all monogrammed. All employees that I encountered during my stay were extremely polite and helpful. All speak perfect english if you need it. I had breakfast each morning at the hotel for 6 euros. It consisted of cafe au lait, jus d'orange, 2 flaky croissants and 2 hunks of baguette, butter and confiture. The breads were always of the utmost freshness and the coffee made espresso style by the cup when ordered..." (she says she 'slept like a baby')
Hotel le Sevigne (4th) A/C
(NOT Hotel DE Sevigne)
Single 63€

Tripadvisor review, June 9:
"..We stayed at the Hotel Sevigne in May for one week. It is a small 2-star hotel, and typical of small European hotels, the room was miniscule. However, it was very clean, the bathroom was newly redone and immaculate, and for 73 euros/night we were in the heart of the Marais district with our own little balcony! The breakfast was perfect, for 6.40 euro/person we received tea/coffee/hot chocolate, orange juice, croissants, cheeses, jams, yogurt, and baguette, all delivered to the room. We had a double bed, our own bathroom (which is not guaranteed typically at this price level in Paris), TV, phone, etc, everything you would expect. We kept our unloaded backpacks under the bed for space..."

I just looked at Le Sevigne. It sounds quite nice, actually -- but would be 23 euros more than Tiquetonne.
I've imposed an arbitrary budget of $800 for transportation + hotel. So far I've used up $675 for air + train. I guess only Tiquetonne will meet my budget.
Nah. I should probably call this one up and see if they've something available. It's very near L'Eclaireur (on r. Malher) so that's a good excuse to stop by and shop.

You probably know the usual sources to check out some cheap hotels -- have you looked at www.jack-travel.com and www.timeout.com? They usually have some good recommendations. What about the Grand hotel Malher in the Marais?
I've read something good about Hotel du Cygne in the 1st, although it's a bit more (cheapest room is 60 euro if you can get it).
www.hotelducygne.fr
Here's another 2* I found near the Garnier Opera for someone, it looks ok, but the rate is 71 euro (That appears to be normal rate, though, so maybe you can get summer discount)
http://www.hoteldunil.net
What's going on? That big Live 8 concert by Geldorf is going on in Paris on July 2nd at the Eiffel Tower. That could have something to do with it, especially the kind of rooms you are looking for, just don't know. Maybe you and your friend can check it out, although a lot of the people singing I don't care about. Renaud is going to be there, though, and I like him. What else are you planning to do at night? I'd be interested.

Oh right. mvor mentioned this in a separate thread.
I've looked at the links you gave before, but not specifically for this trip. I'll see if I can stay with my friend in Montmartre as a backup. If not, then I'll look more seriously.
To answer your other questions, Christina, I wrote a blog entry. Easier this way:
