Hotel suggestions in St Goar / Rhein River
WE are 2 couples planning to spend 3 nights in the Rein River area - we are looking for a centrally located hotel, with a bit of charm. We liked the sound of St. Goar...?

This place is right in the middle of town on a narrow little lane, and close to the river. I've never stayed there but would like to give it a try. English option, but the translation is sort of funny. Click around on the German links too:

http://www.hotelzurpost-online.de/

You can find some other places here, too (not all are central - be careful.)

http://www.tal-der-loreley.de/ukv/uk...;submit=Search

I'm trying to get a room for 2 nights the last week of September. Didn't know that Octoberfest started this soon, and didn't know St Goar is having 'Rhine in Flames' just before we arrive, and didn't know Boppard is having a winefest the time we're going to be there! So, as a consequence, I'm waiting to hear back from my 6th and 7th inquiries. We're trying to stay within good walking distance of the bahnhof, either Boppard or St Goar.

The one I started with (no availability during my stay) in St Goar was the Hotel zur Loreley - it looks very nice. Here is a link: http://www.hotel-zur-loreley.de/st-goar-germany/index.html
The one in Boppard I started with (no avail) was Hotel garni Gunther (or Guenther). We are staying at the Rheinfels Castle Hotel in St. Goar in June . It has gotten good reviews on this site and elsewhere. Web site is www.castle-hotel-rheinfels.com. Good luck.

We stayed at the Hotel Krone in Assmasshausen close to St. Goar/Rudesheim, etc. area. The Rhein cruise tour guide points it out as particularly historical as you pass by. It is wonderful and if you're willing to splurge (probably around $250 US/ night per room by now) this is the place. It's enchanting, a kind of modified German castle on the bankds of the Rhein. Charm that just doen't quit.
