Hotel Suggestions
My wife and I will be visiting France in late Sept of this year. We plan on spending 3-4 days in Normandy, 3-4 days along the French Riviera, and a few days in the FRench Alps. We are seeking suggestions for moderately priced hotels in Bayeux, Honfleur, Nice, Grenoble, and Geneva (Switzerland). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, would anyone suggest an alternative to Nice along the Riviera or Grenoble in the French ALps?

Thanks

Larry

Go to Logis-de-france.fr for hotel selections. Our average cost for twenty nights will be $43.00 a night for a double room with a shower or bath. This average includes one 3*** in Paris, A 3*** in Brantome and a 2** Barr that I reserved direct for eight of the nights. The other seven hotels reserved through Logis are two **.

Larry--
In Bayeux we stayed at the Hotel Notre Dame which is right across from the church in downtown. Lovely place, rated 1 or 2 stars for around $70US for 2 people which included breakfast and dinner (1/2 pension). Dinner was one of the best 3 course dinners we had in France.
In Honfleur we stayed at the Hotel du Dauphin which was right by the Basin and Church. Very nice 2 star for around $60US.
Another option in Bayeux is a Chambre' or B&B owned by a Col Chillcot(or something like that) about 1 mile from town where he gives personalized tours of the Normandy Beaches. We had tried to book his place but he was full, plus his rates were less than the Notre Dame. His B&B can be found on vrbo.com
Hope this helps, Happy Travels

Larry,

Sounds like a great trip. First, I was very pleased with Nice but found the rocky beaches a bit of a surprise - I am told Cannes is where the sand is - however, Monaco is a nice afternoon trip from Nice, only about a 3 dollar train ride - and very nice beaches there.

As far as the Alps go, I was recently in Annecy - it was a small and Magic town and my fiancee and I loved it - rivers meander into the beautiful lake and the food - fantastic. I have not been to Grnoble, but Annecy is a sure treat.

Mat

Hi, Larry,
I would second Mat's suggestion about Annecy as a good base from which to explore both the western edge of the Alps and Geneva (about an hour's easy drive). Better food and way, way cheaper, plus the advantage small-town cuteness and Lake Annecy, surely one of the most beautiful bodies of water on the continent. The Ibis Hotel in the center of Annecy is affordable and very well located.

I would also look at Menton as an affordable, pretty, and less touristy destination on the Cote d'Azur.
