Hotel Suggestion?

Hi All,

For an autumn trip to Paris and Normandy, I'm looking for hotel suggestions. In Paris, I've stayed in the 6th before, and for this trip was considering staying in the Marais. When I travel to Normandy, I'm planning to stay in Honfleur. Tentative budget is $300-400E per night, higher as needed. I enjoy properties that have charm and character, and are well located.

Thanks in advance.

Rhonda

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at La Cour Sainte-Catherine in Honfleur. Charm, character, and well located, IMO, and it still gets some outstanding reviews. It's a B&B, not a hotel, but you might check it out.

Autumn is an expensive time in Paris, but that budget should do it. The problem is not many hotels any more have character and charm (presuming you mean old style decor). Most are trying to be hip and modern. I don't really like the Marais, and have only stayed more on the border of 11th and not in charming hotels, so can't recommend from experience. I did stay in one once that looks charming but was kind of shabby. I didnt' care that much, but you might. That was the Villa Beaumarchais. May not be wher e you wanted to stay, I liked its location as it was a bit away from the main part of the Marais which I don't care for.

But I know from reviews that you might looke into the Hotel de Neuve by Happyculture (nice decor) and the Hotel de Josephine Bonaparte. Good locations.

This is the one I stayed at which was a bit shabby, but nothing drastic (and that was years ago). But some people just care about a lot of things I don't (like the carpet was worn some). Main thing I didn't like was the particular room I had, the TV was in a location where you couldn't easily view it in a bed lying position (or sitting in bed, which I do), it was off to the side. I hate that, when the TV is to the side, not straight in front viewing area. But other rooms could be different. They have kept their old style, though. I really did like the location as it's on a side street and not noisy. Staff were nice enough. It is a bargain compared to some others in that area. It's just a bit north of the CHemin Vert metro, which isn't where some folks want to be.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Forwarding to my friend/traveling companion, who knows locations better than I do and is more particular. Appreciate your comments!

If you're not opposed to the 5th, Hotel des Grands Hommes is very nice as is the Grands Dames next door. I've stayed in GH twice and had excellent service and the rooms are very nice and full of French charm. Ask for a room with a view of the Pantheon.

Hi ronniehu,

I adore the Marais, and I've decided I'll stay there on my next visit to Paris. On my many hotel searches, I came upon The Stay Le Marais, and it's wonderful. I love its location. It only offers three options: two studios with kitchenette, desk area, and washing machine, or a 1-bedroom apartment. Rates start at 300€ I believe.

You can see it here:

Have fun as you plan!

Thank you again for these hotel suggestions.

While in Paris, my traveling companion prefers to stay in either the Marais (4th), or the 6th or 7th ... not the 5th. I am letting her choose, passing along all these great suggestions.

In Normandy, appreciate the suggestion of the B&B in Honfleur. Passed it along!

Starting a new thread with some other trip questions ... THX again

I love the Caron de Beaumarchais hotel in the Marais since it's like stepping back into time - SO much French charm. One caveat - it's very clean and has absolutely elegant decor, but it is also a tinyyyyy little bit "shabby chic." It's also in a very busy part of the Marais, which is great for sightseeing and being in the middle of everything, but not so great if you prefer to be away from the crowds (which typically, I do.) Still, inside the hotel is quiet and lovely, and you can check it out for yourself and see what you think! I think the balcony rooms on the top floor are the nicest at this hotel.

We stayed here Hôtel Signature Saint Germain des Près. You can only book through their website. Very friendly staff, definitely in your price range.and good location. They even gave my husbnad a little gift because it was his birthday.

We've stayed at Hotel Le Bayeux, in Bayeux and Hotel Jeanne D'Arc le Marais in Paris before, which we enjoyed and should fit your budget. Enjoy your trip.

As far as I know, the Hôtel Jeanne d'Arc still doesn't have air conditioning. I really like the hotel, but a few years ago my daughters and I stayed there in April during a very unusual warm spell in Paris. We had a family suite on the ground floor with one window that opened onto a passage and were given a small fan to use. People were walking past our open window all night! I wouldn't hesitate to stay there in the colder months, but would certainly think twice about booking there spring through fall.
