Hotel Riviera, 17th, Paris
Hi to everyone,
I was thinking about staying in this hotel for a long week end next month, In February...Have you got some recent inputs about this hotel...any good or bad experiences in this hotel?

Finally, I didn't stay there because I found a better deal in the 17th ...I stayed at hotel Prince Albert Wagram. it s a little and charming hotel....I stayed there and was very happy of my stay. Staff was great and really helpful.
Rooms were very clean and for the prices, it is interesting. It is a little bit farer from Champs Elysees than hotel Riviera but that's OK..by bus, it takes about 15 minutes!

Hi Wondering,
I'm staying there too, in the last weekend of April. I took the chance after reading the warm recommendation brought in by Travelnut. It has a sister hotel, the St. Jacques in the Latin Quarter, which gets rave reviews everywhere, so I'm pretty sure we'll be fine. I like the area - upsacale residential, with walking distance to the Etoile, Parc Monceau and the beautiful Russian Church. Métro is nearby.
Enjoy your trip.

I'm staying there in 3.5 weeks and have booked the "Chambre Individuelle Standard" for 70E. Is the neighbourhood quiet at nighttime?

yes, it is very quiet at night ~ although the am traffic noise starts early...wear earplugs. we were in room 21 on the top floor in the corner overlooking the street and paid 74 or 76 euros. we had coffee every am in the room delivered by the cute little man in his waiter uniform. then hit one of the many local bakeries. we tried a different one each day. have fun! wish i were back right now!

Thanks, wondering. I'm not bothered by am noise since I tend to be up by 6:00-6:30 anyway.
This seems to be a really good budget hotel, I'll be spending 3 nights there beginning on the 29th. I also love trying a different bakery every day. I'll add my comment when I'm back next month.

I didn't like the Hotel Riviera and moved out the first night.
It all started in the morning when I showed up early and put my luggage in front of the reception desk (there was no real bagagerie). I then went up the narrow corridor and spiralling staircase to use the tiny public toilets, which didn't have a washbasin (I looked up the one in the second floor, it didn't have one either). I came back to check in at 14:00, the room wasn't ready (the maid half shouted at me - "je n'ai pas fini"
. Went back in about 1 hour, it was finally ready. I managed to sleep for a little while then woke up and left. When I returned later that night there were many more people in the hotel, as I could hear from the steps over my head and toilets all around me being flushed. I took a shower and tried to fall asleep but couldn't. The street noise was unbearable, with the windows either open or closed (and I wanted to open the windows - it had been a nice day of about 21C and the room felt stuffy).
I felt trapped, I felt like I had no privacy and no air.
I knew that I had to get out of there. I picked up the Pages Jaunes and looked up some hotels. Then I remembered the Hotel Verlain that offered discounts on the weekend. Luckily, they had a room available, with AC, and I decided to move there immediately. I packed my bags, payed the receptionist and went out of there. I immediately found a taxi and we drove all the way to the 11th.
And what a difference. The verlain is a 3-star, it has double glazing and some air-conditioned rooms (on the top floor only). I had a small single room with double bed in the attic (6th floor) that was actually smaller than the one in Riviera, but I felt so much better. It was quiet and I could SLEEP.
For 65E a night including breakfast (instead of 89E) it was very good value. I managed to peek into a twin room the next day, which was much larger than my single.
It's located very near rue Oberkampf which is busy at nighttime but again, I had no trouble to fall asleep. I didn't need to use the AC and opened the window instead.
And I loved the location, it was exactly what I needed - residential and quiet, removed from touristy neighbourhoods, with a metro station very nearby. I think I'm going back to France in October and going to try to stay there again.

Sorry you did not like Riviera. The area is not touristy which we liked and it does have city noise...although we did not notice any at night- ever- and we stayed seven nights!(Thinking back we never got back before 11:00 pm so maybe that is why? )... We were on the top floor and thought it was really a good value for the area. Older building, new bathroom...(78 euros/double) Had no problems with anything. My husband and I used to stay in the 16th before Hotel Etoile became a 4 star and quadrupled its prices.I liked it there better but not that much better! In a way I am glad it was panned here on Fodors so it won't get popular when we want to return.I do not think the website is deceptive. It is 2* and is advertised as such. p.s. Glad you found another place to your liking.
