Hotel Review: Hotel du Lys, Paris
Greetings Fodorites--
I recently posted on my blog about my stay at the Hotel du Lys in the Odeon-St,-Michel neighborhood this past April. I thought a recommendation might be helpful to Paris trip planners who want a terrific, reasonably-priced hotel on the left bank, in a great area.

I got the first floor double - my travel companion took a single on the top floor. We were both delighted with our rooms, the staff, the location -- and the price!
I now belong to the Fodors Forums fans who love the Hotel du Lys - idiosyncrasies and all. Never, ever change....

I've stayed there several times over the past 15 years (and have recommended it to many others who also like it) and agree with all you say about it. It has become increasingly "user-friendly" over the last few years; a younger generation of the family-owned hotel has taken over and seems to be more aware of customer service!
The location cannot be beaten for exploring both right and left banks, and the price is right! I'm glad to hear someone else singing this quirky little hotel's praises!

Thanks for your comments! Denisea I went right over to TripAdvisor and posted a review. What good advice - thanks. And yes, the Found Money strategy reaps travel rewards all the time. I must tell Suze Orman all about it. I hope you've been finding some yourself.
Grandmere I believe it was your recommendation here that sent me to the Hotel du Lys. I was delighted with everything especially the location and price.
Has anyone stayed in one of the rooms off the lobby? I am curious about the noise.

Hi Julie
On your recommendation we are staying at Hotel Du Lys just next week.
Seeing your photos and re-reading your words so soon before we go is quite amazing. We are so excited, the waiting is almost unbearable.
We are away till the middle of October, so will report back then.

Julie, we stayed in Hotel Du Lys in the early 80s and liked it then. I'm so pleased that it has maintained its charm and value. The location is superb, of course. I remember that we walked almost everywhere from there. I'll kep it in mind fro our next trip.
Thanks for sharing your impressions and photos!

Oh, Helen J - I am envious. I hope the Hotel du Lys delights you. Buck up for the stairs and remember the hotel breakfast is included in the price. If you want a nearby restaurant recommendation read my review of Le Bistrot d'Henri

Moolyn, I bet you'll find the Hotel du Lys as warm and welcoming as it was in the 80s. It must be past time for a return trip, n'est pas?
Latedaytraveler, thanks for visiting the blog and your kind comments. We are so much fun that we leave Found Money all over Paris when we go. Thank goodness I have the blog as a handy excuse to go to Paris every year.
Regards,
Julie

Guenmai, thanks for listing Grandmere's original review. It was the clincher in my choice of the Hotel du Lys. In fact, there are several positive reviews on this Forum

I should have thought to include *that* in my original post!

Hi Julie
We did stay at Hotel du Lys and absolutely loved it.
The location certainly can't be beat, the rooms are gorgeous, the two guys at the front desk were most friendly and helpful and having breakfast in the lobby sitting in those gorgeous chairs at the old tables (even loved the wallpaper on the walls) made us feel very Parisian for our few days in Paris. Climbing the stairs was not an issue - we were on the 4th floor - but just had lots of "rest stops" on the way up.
Thanks again for the recommendation - just thinking about it makes me want to be back there right now!!!!
Kind regards
Helen

Helen, I'm glad the Hotel du Lys fit the bill and helped make your visit to Paris great. It's easy to establish headquarters at either the Place Saint-André des Arts or Place de l'Odeon.
For the price, I think it's a buy!
Judyrem, thanks for your comment on the review.
