Hotel Ponte Sisto or Albergo del Senato?

Help! I need to make a final decision between the two. Albergo del Senato is 50 euros more per day, and is it worth it as far as location, amenities, etc? We are only staying for 2 nights before a cruise.

Wordsmith,

Don't know if you saw my response in your other thread. You can get the Ponte Sisto heavily discounted through www.reservationitaly.com

Can't help with the comparison as I have not stayed in Del Senato. But I prefer the location of the Ponte Sisto better as I love the Campo D Fiori area and not so much the Pantheon area.

Senato is in the midst of the historical center (centro storico) of Rome, across the piazza from the Pantheon, a very short walk to Piazza Navona, Via del Governo Vecchio (shop till you drop), Campo de' Fiori. Loads of places nearby to eat, take espresso, gelato. Suggest Da Francesco and Virginiae to eat; Caffe' della Pace for people watching. San Eustachio Caffe'for espresso. Rooftop of the Raphael Hotel for a romantic evening cocktail. Concierge can give you walking directions to these places.
You are there only 2 days, I would choose Senato over Ponte Sisto only because Sisto is further away from the action. You can view for yourself on Rome Channel of www.WebVisionItaly.com

Thanks. I have already gotten a very good price directly from the hotel so will probably choose it based on the location factor that you mentioned.

Wordsmith,

Just curious, Is the discount the hotel is giving you 50% of their rack rate? That is what we got through Reservation Italy.

Yes, it is 50%. But I need to think about location since reading Remus e-mail. Any other thoughts? The difference is 50 eurs per nite

wordsmith,

Believe it or not, for being a big city, Rome's historic center is pretty compact. The two outliers are Vatican city and Colosseum/Forum area, and even those are not that far.

For example, you can walk from Campo d Fiori to Piazza Navona in about 10 mins or less.

It just becomes a matter of preference. I don't care for the area in front of the Pantheon. Big groups congregate in the Piazza at all hours. OTOH, The Ponte Sisto is on a narrow street.

There are plenty of restaurants around both areas, so that shouldn't matter.

Even w/o the difference of 50 euros I would go for Ponte Sisto. But, again, it is a matter of preference. I know many people that just love that Pantheon square. I must be weird because I don't.

Maybe it would help you if you look at a map of Rome and see where both hotels are?

I have only stayed at Albergo del Senato, however have been to Rome several times--both are great locations, convenient for sightseeing, and I think you will enjoy either stay.

Have fun!

I'm not sure how helpful this is but I stayed at the Ponte Sisto and would stay there again. I liked the location and the fact that it wasn't as busy as the Panetheon area. I haven't stayed at the Senato so I can't compare. Price would certainly be a consideration for me.

I decided to stay at Del Senato because since I am only there for 2 days I really am intrigued by a spot where there is "lots of action" happening instead of a quiet street. Thanks so much for your help!

You won't regret staying at the Del Senato. The view from the rooftop bar is fantastic and the location can't be beat. Even though there was a lot of activity in the piazza outside, our room was very quiet. Hope you have a great time...

You'll have a great time at Albergo del Senato. The location is fantastic. We loved being able to walk to all the historic sites, and more importantly, our favorite gelaterias!

I know this is an old post, but I'm curious, wasn't the Albergo Senato considerably more expensive than Ponte Sisto?

I know I'd definitely choose it over Ponte Sisto if the price was equal, but it was prohibitavely more expensive when I looked at the two.
