Hotel near Victoria Station - Safe?

Hi - Planning a trip to London next summer with my husband and 7 year old son. This is our first time in London. We'll be there for 3 days and found an excellent rate at the Hilton Doubletree Victoria Hotel (address: 2 Bridge Place, Victoria). We read reviews indicating this is a good location for transportation due to Victoria Station's proximity to the hotel, as well as having some of the sights nearby. More importantly, is this a safe area to walk around, especially at night? I've stayed by train stations before (e.g., Rome) and did not feel safe at all. Please let me know your thoughts...Thank you!

Very safe - as safe as any place in London I would think after having walked thru that area many many times at night - and you do not have the problems of Rome (gypsy kids and distraction ruses) much in London.

That is a very safe area - the station is very busy/crowded and you should take just the same precautions you would in any big city.

That hotel is directly across the street from one of the side entrances into the train station. It is very convenient for the tube/trains/local buses, and even out of town buses from Victoria Coach station. You really wouldn't be wandering around at night all that much - you would generally travel back to the hotel after evening events/plays/dinner wherever you are out and about, etc by tube and then walk across the street to the hotel.

There will always be other people out on the streets and it isn't scary at all.

Plus rail stations in London have a heavy police presence IME - in fact being right by a station entrance could be the safest place in a generally safe London!

I stayed in the hotel adjoining the station and it was safe.
