An alternative to the Hilton Hotel in the airport is the NEW Hilton Garden Inn airport - also in the airport but at the cargo area.
We spent our last night there before returning home about 2 months ago. It is brand new, opened around October last year. It was about half the price of the "old" Hilton and was fantastic.
It had all the comforts that you would expect from a Hilton including free WiFi in the room, large TV, great a/c, etc.
We returned our car at the airport, walked to the "old" Hilton through the covered passageways, were warmly greeted and after less than 10 minutes a shuttle came to take us to the Hilton Garden Inn, about a 10 minute ride.
We were very pleased with all aspects of this hotel, including even the dinner we had at their restaurant. It was not gourmet, but it was fine for the purpose and the price was reasonable.
The only drawback is that there is absolutely NOTHING around the hotel. But the "old" Hilton provides a shuttle service into Rome and when we asked if we could use it, they said that basically it is reserved only for the "old" Hilton guests but since the hotel was not fully booked, they thought we would be able to.
In the end, we were so enamored of the hotel itself, we decided to just relax and hang out.
