Hotel near Madrid airport

We have an early morning flight from Madrid back to the U.S. and are thinking we should spend the last night near the airport. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It takes about 25 minutes to reach T4 from the center of Madrid. Staying at the Airport Hilton might save you 10 minutes travel time at the most.

Spend the last night in the city and enjoy yourself.

I'm with Robert. We caught an early morning taxi from Central Madrid in March and getting to the airport on time was a breeze.

Also thinking about getting rid of the rental car. Does it pay to return it in Madrid the day before and not at the airport? You've given us something to think about. Thank you.

Dropping the car off in the city can be a hassle unless you're familar with Madrid. We alwyas advise our clients to drop the car off at the airport and take a taxi in (30€ fixed price).

I have always dropped my car at Atocha train station after checking into my hotel and dropping my luggage. I take a taxi to the airport on my departure day.

Have you been to Atocha since they added the new section and moved the rental car locations? Things have changed quite a bit the last couple of years.

Hard to answer if it pays, it is your money and your time.

Barajas/Feria have parking for 15 Euros, and the car return is a 5 minute drive.

We have never been in Madrid proper, but usually spend the last day or so at either Barajas or Feria and do day trips.

Perdaza is worth a drive, Toledo is less than an hour.

Axor Barajas and Axor Feria are essentially one hotel, they are right next door to each other and have the same shuttle. We stayed there a couple weeks ago. Dropped the car at the airport (T-1), took the hotel's free shuttle to the hotel and then back to the airport in the morning for the early flight. Took less than ten minutes to T-1, don't know how much further T-4 is. I would stay there again. There is a mall about a ten minute walk from the hotel with a giant food court (fast food and sit down restaurants).

Only problem was they are doing construction around the car rental return at the airport so it was a bit confusing. The seriously need better signs. Other than that everything was easy.
