Hotel Melia White House

Has anyone stayed here lately that could give me some feedback on the quality of this hotel? We have booked a few days next month there as well and I am curious if anyone has some experiences since they remodeled in 2002.

Also any feedback on good pricing for this hotel would be appreciated.
Thanks
David

Thanks for the feedback DM531 I checked out the site you mentioned and the reviews are somewhat all over the map (as I might have expected) People's expectations for lodging are not the same whether they are from other parts of Europe or in the US. However, I think I saw enough good in there to conclude that it will meet my, rather modest, needs well. I didn't see anything that scared me off or concerns me. I'm still interested if anyone has anything else to say about it and what pricing would be good there.
Thanks
David

i stayed here for three nights at small convention. NICE room. the ones with full bed instead of twins seemd larger to all of us. bathroom small but sufficient. good water pressure.

really liked the location. nice food around the corner.
tube and cafés, tesco, and bars across the street.
bus in front of hotel. and you can WALK to picadilly, passing shops most of the way.

nice bar in hotel. (pricey but very comfortable).
and if you have studied spanish you might have fun practicing with MANY staff.

breakfast can get crowded at peak time but buffet was excellent (IMHO). had better mandarin oranges there than in my home town (Valencia spain)at that time of year!

have no idea of lowest possible price.. but a friend came to visit and i think they had to pay 120 pounds/night lodging only on weekend.(late NOV)

hope this helps. i would stay there again if price weren't prohibitive.

p.s. they have a very UNUSUAL lift button system. first you go to a little machine and press what floor you want, and then it displays WHICH lift you need to take. Do not take other lift than the one displayed, even if it comes earlier, because it will NOT take you to your floor!

it was pretty funny re-directing the newbies to this machine, etc., as everyone would just go to the first lift that opened its doors!!!

We loved the hotel for the price we wound up with (less than 55 pounds) and the service was good as well. Good location near transportation and convenience stores and pubs right in the area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Wish we had stayed there the last night instead of Euston Square Hotel which was a bit of a dump and not anywhere near the Melia White house for onle 10 pounds less - worlds apart.

i also would like to know how the poster got the rate of 55 pounds per night. i stayed there in 2001 (during the renovation) and was quite pleased.
since i stayed as part of an american airlines package then, i didn't know what the rate would be now. i would stay there again without question, especially with the 55 pound rate!

Sorry I had started to post this once wrote a slightly longer version of this same post and then had my PC crash before it got posted. When I re-wrote it for the second time I left out that we had made our booking through Priceline. We had offered $80USD for a 3 star hotel when Priceline counteroffered for $108 USD (Approx 55 Pounds) for a 4 star. After convinving Wendy that things were considerable more expensive in London than in Munich (where we used Priceline as well) and that this was probably a good deal we accepted. This turned out to be Melia White House. I don't know how often Priceline is able to secure Melia for this price but I highly reccomend trying them for this at this (or a slighlty higher) rate and perhaps you would get lucky as we did. Select the Marlebone (Sp) Marble Arch area when selecting the area to bid on in Priceline. We booked for a Friday arrival with a Tuesday checkout. In early Feb the rates are probably considerably lower and bookings considerably less than other times of the year but those are just my opinions and not me trying to justify the good rate we got Hope that helps and good luck in getting something in London for an affordable price. We would do Priceline again there but not at a 2 star level - only a 3 or a 4. - D
