Based on answers to my previous posts we have given up the idea of staying in Padua or Lido in favor of staying in atmospheric Venice. Our granddaughter is living and working in the San Polo district. It appears from the map that the Hotel Marconi would be close. Would appreciate hearing from anyone familiar with this hotel. Is there a lift? If not, are nice rooms available on ground or first floor? Also, we would probably splurge for a private water taxi from/to airport. Is there a landing nearby?
Also open to other suggestions, also. We are senior citizens with slight mobility problems.

I don't know about this hotel personally. But if you check at veniceby.com (booking site) it gives alot of info. about the hotel. There's no elevator as is typical in Venice hotels and there are four floors.

We and many others on this board love the Marconi. It is right at the Rialto and yet manages to be quiet at the same time. I don't remember if they have a lift but I will send you the website where you can check....

I don't see a lift listed, but there is an email where you can write to them to inqiure.

We've stayed at the Marconi....a very pleasant hotel. BUT unfortunately there isn't a lift.
If you have mobility problems it would be wise to take a water taxi to the Marconi. The Rialto vaporetto stop is on the opposite side of the Grand Canal....too many steps to climb with luggage. BUT there is a spot next to the hotel for th water taxi to land.
Also...if I remember correctly the rooms are on the first floor (American sencond floor) and above.

If you choose the Marconi, you can get on/off the vaporetto stop just "up the street" at San Silvestro. About a 2 minute walk, at most. No bridges.

Barbara, if you look at the hotel website in my other post, and click on "availability and booking", there will appear an icon that says "Availability tableau". By clicking on that you can see that it indicates a "double room w/canal grande view" in the list of available accomodations. Those are the rooms pictured in Bailey's post. I believe there are only 2 and I know that they get booked way ahead.

What might a person expect to pay for a canal front room?

We are planning to go back to Venice next summer and I have the Hotel Marconi in a picture from the first trip.

One last thing...when I opened that "Availability tableau" and dragged my mouse over random dates, I saw prices ranging from 175-390 euros for those rooms.

There are only a few rooms with canal views.
We had to move on our third night...someone had booked the front room.
The rear rooms are just OK.

One common theme both here an on Tripadviser is people mentioning that they had to change rooms during their stay. This seems really inconvenient to me. Does this happen at other Venice hotels? Elsewhere in Italy? We've traveled in England, Belgium, and Germany and never had such an experience.

Barbara....Before we arrived we knew that we'd have to change....we had made late reservations & EVERYONE wants a room at the front with a view!
We decided that 2 nights with a view was better than No nights with a view!
No...it isn't a common practice in Venice....there isn't any 'bait n' switch'.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Marconi.

It is a few steps from the Rialto bridge. The vaporetto landing is across the canal. There is a gondola landing in front of the hotel.

They do not have a lift.

Can anyone tell me about the bathrooms here? My husband has really broad shoulders and struggles with some of the european single showers and smaller bathrooms in general.
