Hotel in Venice: The Impossible Dream
I know I'm asking a lot, but if anyone knows the answer to this, you folks will. We will be spending 3 days in Venice, May 2006. Because of mobility issues, we will take a water taxi to the hotel. Is there a hotel with easy access to where the water taxis dock, under 200E, with an elevator or at least ground floor rooms? We would like to be close to San Marco, and a canal view. Be kind, I'm just asking !

Hi trav,
A water taxi will take you to the front door if it is on a canal.
See if this will work for you.
Most folks go for the Smeralda room.

The 200 euro is for one room for two people?
Look into the Do Pozzi hotel. I haven't stayed there, but have always read good things.
It is 5 minutes from Piazza San Marco.

The Hotel Ala meets all of your criteria. It has its own water taxi stop, has an elevator, has a view of a small canal and is a 10 minute walk from San Marco. Last time we were there, two years ago, it was under 200E and I think it is still in this range. Check the hotel at www.italyby.com.

We just stayed at Pensione La Calcina. It was 230 euro with requested Rick Steve's discount. That was for a room on the top floor with a view, so I am sure you can get a less expensive room there. It is right on the canal. They have a nice restaurant and a killer sundeck on the top of the building that you can sit on and have wine, etc. It was maybe 100 yards from a stop and you can walk to everything.

Thanks all. To answer your questions: The room is for 2 people. I don't need an adaptive room, but don't want to use my energy on unneeded stairs or walking. I want to save my energy for touring the sights. Although Pensione Calcina has had great reviews, they do not have an elevator or ground floor rooms. I'll check out the other suggestions...keep them coming !

We stayed at the Pensione Accademia a few years ago, and I think they have ground-floor rooms, and it's under 200€.
You can take a water taxi right to the door. We had a "canal view," but the view wasn't much to write home about- it was a little side-street kind of canal.
It also wasn't terribly close to San Marco (It's in Dorsoduro), but we really liked the location.

We stayed at the Hotel Kette last year, and at the time rates were under 200 euros. Checking the web site now, I see prices all over the map, but the least expensive rooms still seem to be priced under 200 euro. Very close to San Marco, water entrance and elevator.

Hi travel52, I love the San Cassiano Ca Favretto Hotel. It is right across the Grand Canal from the Ca d'oro. It is in the San Polo area, right on the Grand Canal. The water taxi can take you right to this hotel. It is a ten minute walk to the Rialto Bridge.
If you think this might interest you there are lots of reviews on tripadvisor.com. I noticed that there were prices quoted for under 200.00E but did not check out the details because I am not going to Venice this year. Best regards.

I have emailed many of the hotels mentioned, but I am becoming discouraged, as most are in the range of 230-390E (must be because we're going in May). Hotel San Moise (200-250E)says they can accommodate us in their second building. I'm not sure what that means. Any one have any idea?

Hi
did you ask the hotel what the 2nd bldg is?
The location of it is excellent, haven't stayed at the hotel.
Also, have you looked into the Giorgione?
don't know about the mobility issues, but it's a popular hotel near the Rialto.

Hi there. My daughters and I stayed in the Ambassador Tre Rose (ummm, Tre Rose Ambassador??) in December. It's plain, nothing fancy, with great staff, goooood breakfast and is only one tiny bridge with four steps away from San Marco. I too have some mobility issues and loved this location! We paid 150 Euro for a triple. No idea what it would be now... I hope you are excited. You will love Venice!

Thanks for all of your help. I think the Hotel Ala will meet our needs. Now, the decision to take the "oh so expensive" water taxi or the water bus. Does the water bus stop close to the hotel? My husband will be hauling the luggage, and then there is me, not wanting to use up my energy on just getting to the hotel. Thanks !
