Hotel Luxembourg Parc in Paris?

I already have Henri IV Rive Gauche booked for our May 2008 week long trip. However, in looking at Tripadvisor today since we booked several months ago, I stumbled upon Hotel Luxembourg Parc (currently rated #2 in Paris) and its website.

The price differential is nominal for a week long stay (about $250). Luxembourg is in the 6th and is a 4 Star Hotel, whereas Henri IV Rive Gauche is in the 5th and is a 3 Star.

My husband said it's a no brainer and we should go with Luxembourg. The main draw of Henri IV is it being in a great location. Is Luxembourg Parc's location good, too?

Thanks.

We visited the Hotel lasy year, it seemed very nice. I personally like the neighborhood, about a block or so from St. Sulpice, where I normally stay, and about 2 or so blocks from Blvd St Germaine, where all the action is. It is what I would call a nice neighborhood. I would go for it.

I've never stayed at either hotel, but I've seen photos taken by former guests at Trip Advisor. The Henri IV Rive Gauche seems to be relying on their Latin Quarter location as the rooms don't look all that great to me for the rates they charge. I'd rather pay more and stay at the Luxembourg Parc which looks very nice. The location of the Lux. Parc is opposite the Luxembourg Gardens and is in a quiet part of the 6th yet not far from the Blvd. St. Germain and the rest of the quarter. I like both districts the two hotels are in but prefer staying in St. Germain if I had a choice.

Don't know either hotel, but have been by both, and I definitely think the location of the Luxembourg Parc is superior. The other one is too close to the Seine and a bazillion tourists and souvenir shops. I just think it's tacky around there. Sometimes husbands are right.

I stayed at the Luxembourg Parc hotel when it first opened a few years ago and loved it. The room was really nice, they have a cozy bar downstairs and the location is great. you are right across from the exhibition gallery of the Luxembourg Gardens and, as someone said, just a few blocks from all the great shopping around St. Sulplice. personally, I prefer that location to the 5th, more upscale but still lots of accessible restaurants and shops (v. staying in some super posh area of the right bank).

The Luxembourg Parc is a wonderful choice. I stayed there last year and will stay there again without hesitation. Great rooms and beautiful bathrooms. Be sure to book on their website and take advantage of internet discounts.

Just an update--

I cancelled our Henri IV reservation, and booked Hotel Luxembourg Parc with a really good internet advance booking discount for only about $200 more for the 7 nights.

I wish I could have taken advantage of their extremely cheap non-refundable rate, but I don't like not being able to cancel.

I am really excited about staying across the street from the Luxembourg Park, which is, according to my guide books, one of the best parks in Paris. I'm sure we'll have a fabulous time.

Thanks for the feedback!
