Hotel Inglaterra or Grand Hotel Central in Barcelona

Can anyone compare/contrast the Hotel Inglaterra or Grand Hotel Central in Barcelona for me? I had booked the Inglaterra for a 2 night stay and now have been reading the reviews of the Grand Hotel Central which are perhaps a little better. We do not have long in Barcelona so location is very important to us. Thanks!

I can't answer your question but I can recommend a hotel near the Inglaterra. DH and I stayed at Hotel Jazz for a week this summer and were very pleased with the hotel, the service and the very central but still quiet-at-night location.

Hotel Jazz gets great tripadvisor reviews (1,000+ reviews with a 96% thumbs up from former guests) which is one of the reasons I chose to stay there. The room and bathroom were lovely and the location is very central for walking to many well known tourist sites and just a five minute walk to the Placa Catalunya and the top of the Rambla.

I got the best deal by booking in advance on the hotel's own website. http://www.hoteljazz.com/

The 4-star Grand Hotel Central is a bit more upscale than the 3-star Inglaterra, so it's a bit difficult to compare the two.

The Inglaterra, which is owned by the Hotel Majestic Group, is a great family hotel with excellent service and access to the facilities and services at the 5-star Majestic.

Both are well located for visiting the area. The Inglaterra is near the top of the Rambles, while the Grand Hotel Central is in the old city closer to the cathedral.

Thanks - I chose the Inglaterra for the reasons you described Robert and it seems to suit our needs, but then I found the Grand Hotel Central for a comparable price. I will be traveling with my 13 year old daughter - I don't know if either location has an edge for safety? Ann Marie I will definitely check out the Hotel Jazz, thanks for the suggestion.

For the price, I'd go with the Gran Hotel Central. Depending on when you'll be there, the rooftop pool would be nice after a day of touring. Overall, I'd choose the NH 4-star 1898 (two pools), but the Jazz is fine.
