Barcelona Hotel Quandry: Grand Hotel Central or Hotel Pulitzer

Hi Fodorites

We are attending a conference in Barcelona in early July and accommodations were made for us at the H10 Catalunya Plaza.

Thereafter, we are on our own and have reservations at both the Grand Hotel Central and the Hotel Pulitzer. Both hotels seem like eclectic boutique-styled hotels that would draw an interesting mix of people.

It’s a difficult decision to make since they both seem to have both the right location, amenities (health club) and verve that we are looking for.

Can anyone fill us in on why we might choose one hotel over the other or provide us with some insight that reviews and websites might not?

Any insight you might provide would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Tim

I like the Pulitzer. It's an outstanding 4-star hotel, fresh and the staff is great. Of course there isn't anything wrong with the Grand Hotel Central, but I like the location of the Pulitzer.

If you take a close look, you'll see that these hotels are similar, yet quite different and it would be a difficult choice.

If you are looking for something comfortable and upscale with a rooftop pool, then take a look at the Hotel 1898.

We were just in Barcelona and stayed in 2 different hotels-the Claris and the Casa Camper. We liked them both. But our friends stayed at the Grand Central and we went to see them there. It is a very nice boutique hotel with a friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are on the small side but very nice with a good sized bathroom. There is also a beautiful infinity pool on the roof. The Grand Central also has an excellent location.

Thanks both for your replies. They are much appreciated.

Would be curious if anyone else has been to Barcelona recently that can provide some insight into either the Hotel Pulitzer or the Grand Hotel Central.

As Robert mentioned, it is a tough choice so any information to help us make a more informed choice would be terrific.

Thank you again Fodorites. You are the best.

Regards
Tim

we were just at the Hotel Pulitzer this March for 6 nights and really loved it. We found the staff to always be very friendly, nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent (aside from some really small hotels or B&B's we have stayed in, definitely the best for a hotel in Europe). It is very stylishly decorated with a nice lobby, bar area and large bright breakfast room. The location was perfect, right off the Placa Catalunya, but on a side street so quiet. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
