I always check www.accor.com Some very nice family owned hotels. The class of the hotel varies but in Europe I've never had a bad hotel found on Accor.

We just got back and stayed at Arco del Lauro B&B in Tratevere and loved it! I loved the location and Lorenza was so incredibly helpful in every way. We paid 120E for a double. This included coffee and a fresh baked croissant at a cafe 2 minutes from the B&B. I highly reccommend this place

We were quite happy with Residenza Canali just off Piazza Navona. It was nicely located, the room was very clean and quiet although maybe a little small (standard room). The breakfast buffet was the best we had in Italy. We were offered a 10% discount to pay cash.
