hotel in Luzern
I need a hotel for 2 adults and 2 children 12 & 8. I can't seem to find anything decent that will hold all four of us for less than 435.chf per night. I really want to stay on the lake any suggestions?

Hi Bibb,
How are you travelling? If by car -- or you don't mind an added connection by bus or ferry -- you can go to one of the villages on Lake Luzern like Weggis, Vitznau, or Brunnen. You'll get lots more hotel (lakeview rooms!) for your money there -- off the beaten track. So you may be able to get two rooms there for the price of a single room in Luzern proper. I've stayed at the Hotel Albana in Weggis and liked it, but it may be too much to spend for two rooms. Search around www.weggis.ch, www.vitznau.ch, and www.brunnen.ch for other hotels.
Another option is to go to the suburbs of Luzern, like Horw or Hergiswil and get a cheaper hotel there. I've looked into the Hotel Seeburg and the Pilatus Hotel, both on the outskirts/suburbs of Luzern. I think you can find these "outer" hotels if you look at www.luzern.org and expand your search beyond Luzern proper.
Let me know if I can help further.

Hi, Have you e-mailed any of your favorites to inquire about "family" rooms? They might be able to add roll-away beds. You might even try corresponding with a hotel in nearby Hergiswil for better prices. It can't hurt to ask. Try

My friends were very happy there and lake view rooms are available. Quick trainride just out of the city. J.

I know this is not on the lake, but the Pilatus-Kulm and Bellevue hotels that are both at the top of Mount Pilatus might be fun for the kids. You have to take a cog railway or cable car to get up the mountain and you can't beat the view! Both hotels are reasonably priced, or at least they were when I was there a few years ago.

Try costco.com for National Grand Hotel $585 for 3 nights including tax & breakfast for two. It comes out to US$ 390 per night for two separate rooms & breakfasts. It's a great lakefront hotel in Luzern, may be worth the extra.

Hi. Lucerne is very, very expensive. I stayed at the Hotel de la Paix last summer. It is 3 star, very basic, clean, small hotel room for $150 per night, per person. I was not pleased with the price of the hotel, but my stay was pleasant.
I checked Priceline cities, but Lucerne is not an option. Hotel Europe and Hotel Central are also both very nice hotels in Lucerne.
For all the hotel listings in Lucerne, check out

There is also an Ibis (2 star) that isn't too far outside of town. Checkout www.ibis.com for a cheap, clean room.
