Your title reminded me of my friend's embarrasing "faux pas" when we were in Paris. She had studied French in college, but that's been a few (!) years and she remembered just enough to be dangeroux.
In the first several days I didn't think anything of it when she kept saying "Je suis tres jolie!". But then it clicked...she was saying "I am very beautiful". (Of course she meant "happy".)
She was mortified when I pointed it out. LOL!

Hi - Two of the biggest coiffure chains are really quite good, and non-intimidating. (I'd recommend you bring pictures with you though, if you're not sure how to explain your perfect cut in French)
They both also sell their products in Monoprix/Franprix/pharmacies, so if you really like the effect then stock up before you fly . . .

BTW esthetique refers to one's total look -- not just the haircut. You'll see Salons Biguine and Dessange on lots of streetcorners. Soyez belle alors !
