We are a couple looking for an hotel in Geneva, in mid-april. We expect to pay around $70 U.S. in a central location,not to far from the train station. Is it possible?<BR>Thank you in advance<BR>Jean

I guess the answer to this question is "no"? Not possible?? I have a similar question - for 1 person, in June, and allowing ~$100US. Just need 2 nights until I meet a friend who lives there.<BR><BR>Or to Jean, did you find anything like this?

Here's the link to "Geneva Tourism" http://www.geneve-tourisme.ch/eng/gastronomie.php3?edTemp=vivre<BR><BR>There are lots of hotels around the train station (look for those whose address is "1201 Gen&egrave;ve"), it should not be too difficult to find something to your taste and budget. Geneva is rather small and enjoys good public transportation, so staying close to the station is not necessarily the best choice.<BR><BR>Sorry, as I live here I obviously have no personnal experience with any particular hotel, although I know most 3* and 4* are usually good.

Florence, Thank you for your kind reply. I need 1-2 nights when I land Geneva from the States (to rest up & get over my jetlag!) before going to stay with a friend who lives in Montreux. I will check the site you suggested. Or do you think taking a train direct from the airport out to Lausanne might make more sense in my situation? Thank you again.

Suzie,<BR><BR>Both solutions are fine. Geneva center is only 6 minutes away from the airport, and Montreux 1 hour away by train from Geneva. Check the schedules at http://www.rail.ch/index_e.htm<BR><BR>A good way to relax and recover from jetlag is a day or half-day cruise on the lake and a visit to Yvoire, a medieval city on the French coast, and have a lunch of "filets de perche" (locally fished kind of bass).

Florence,<BR><BR>Can you tell me how long the drive is fom the airport in Geneva to Yvoire. We will be spending time in Kandersteg and Chateau d'oex, but I've read some nice things about Yvoire. If it isn't too far, I might drive down to Yvoire for a few hours (I'm assuming it is south) and then back north to Chateau d'oex. Again for Florence, I LOVE filets de perche! Excellent suggestion. I've spent quite a bit of time in Vevey with my friend. She usually fetches me from the airport in her car. This time I'll just have to be a bit more adventuresome (but not much, as I have always found Switzerland a wonderful, friendly, and of course organized place to visit). Many thanks.

Dan,<BR><BR>Yvoire is about 25 km from Geneva. Allow 45 minutes since you have to go through the city and the main axis is somewhat clogged at peak time. Go to "centre, lac", stay on the left lane when you cross the bridge - have a good look at the fountain on your left, turn left towards "Thonon, Evian". Then you have a straight drive to the border (generally unmanned), and 5 more minutes to the town of Douvaine. Turn left at the lights, following "Lac" until you arrive to a roundabout, take a right and follow the road to Yvoire. You can also have a look at Nernier on the way.<BR><BR>Don't be afraid of getting lost in the area, everybody will point you to Yvoire.
