Has anyone stayed in the area of Sagrada Familia or viewed the hotels Hotel Colon or Hispanos Siete Suiza? Is this a good area for access to tourist Gothic area and Las Ramblas?

The Colon is situated directly across the square from the gothic cathedral, within walking distance of the Metro (Jaume I) and a block or so from Las Ramblas. If you are considering that hotel and can afford to do so, request one of the rooms/w balcony that overlooks the cathedral and square. Stayed there in 2000 and had excellent service and felt the location was (for our particular interests) unbeatable.

I'm also thinking of the Atrium Palace, and Hotel America as possibilities for my stay in Barcelona I'd like to know if anyone has stayed at any of them.
It's incredible how expensive hotels have become in Barcelona. And think that I booked the Claris for 150 Euro per night two years ago....

Have stayed at the Hotel Colon on two occassions and would highly recommend it for easy access to Las Ramblas and the Gothic district. Definitely a 4 star. To be honest, it's the ONLY place I'd stay in Barcelona!!!
