Check out the Electra Palace Hotel in the Plaka. It has wonderful views of the Acropolis and Parthenon from the rooftop pool/garden and from many rooms. I stayed there several years ago and loved it--this was before it was entirely refurbed.

The Grande Bretagne is one of the best( location, service) and most luxurious hotels in Europe. It has gorgeous views of the Acropolis from some of its upper floor rooms/suites, as well as from its restaurant, but it is very expensive. Some of the standard "classic" rooms have no view and barely enough room for a bed and a suitcase.

Totally agree with Weadles - we stayed in one of the standard
rooms and all I recall is the all-night noise from the street
below - garbage collection, yelling, etc. Definately not
worth the money for the beautiful public rooms. Mind you,
I've read somewhere that they've done a huge reno - but that
wouldn't alter the room size or the outside noise!

The Grande Bretagne has done a huge renovation, but the room size remains the same, ( at least it was when we last visited in May 2008), and the price for a classic room is still often over $700/night!
I agree that you should probably stay elsewhere unless you have lots of starwood points. But I would suggest drinks instead of dinner at The Grande Bretagne, preferably at dusk, so that you can see the Acropolis as dark approaches with less of a crowd in the restaurant.
