Hotel Europejski in Krakow

If anyone has stayed in this hotel, do you know if there is much difference between the 'standard' room and the 'standard plus' room? Would it be worth paying the extra for the 'plus' room?

I stayed there in April 2003. I must have had a standard, because the room was very small. I noticed larger rooms as I walked down the long, long halls. Be sure to specify whether or not you want a private bath. Some rooms - even smaller than mine - did not have baths. Overall, the hotel was a little frayed around the edges, but my bed was comfortable and the bathroom was perfectly adequate. The breakfast was served in a lovely dining room with flowers on the tables.

Thanks shocco66. I think I'll go for the standard plus!

I've noticed that you also asked about Atrium Hotel in another post.
I've never stayed at either of these properties. However, Europejski seems to have a much better location. It also depends what you like. Atrium has modern decor, Europejski is more traditional in decor.
I found some traveler opinions on another site. Here they are:

HOTEL EUROPEJSKI:

Roger, United States
We enjoyed our stay for three days. The staff was great, very helpful. The driver, Josef, was of great assitance. We could not have done so much without him. We loved the restaurant, the food and the staff.

Jonathan, United States
Filled with old world charm, the Hotel Europejski Krakow was first of all an excellent location, right by the train station. We had a nice big room with very comfortable beds, a large bathroom and cable TV. We were able to get US newspapers in the lobby and the staff was always helpful providing us with a city map and offering taxicab services if we needed them. A very nice experience (breakfast was also wonderful and again, very eager-to-please staff).

Joanna Elson, United Kingdom
Robert the bar tender was a good source of information and good company!

Pauline, Australia
It is rather a grand old hotel and the room was fine and the breakfast was very good, especially the charming waitresses. Reception staff were very pleasant, and the hotel is ideally located to the Centrum and the train and bus stations. Not all rooms have their own facilities, so it would be wise to check this when booking. I would recommend this hotel to visitors.

ANDREA, United States
This is the ONLY hotel to stay at while in Krakow. It was so close to the train station and to the sights in the city center. It was just very convenient. The staff was very helpful and just all around excellent. The breakfast was amazing!!! The price was also very very excellent. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

Andy, United Kingdom
Very good value for money - although hot water takes some time to come through in the shower!

Patience, United States
I loved that the hotel was so close to the train station and to the center!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. And, most importantly, breakfast was great!!!

HOTEL ATRIUM

Brian, United States
Four bananas. The Atrium is a nice modern property only a few hundred meters from the heart of the old town while at the same time on a very quiet street. The staff was friendly and the quality of food in the restaurant was quite good. Also, a generous continental breakfast in the morning. In closing, a great value for your money

Steve, United States
Our room had very modern decor, an excellent bathroom, and was spacious for this price range in a city center. The only low marks are for the mediocre bedding (OK matress, small covers on full size bed). The entire staff was very friendly, helpful - they can conduct business and direct tourists in English. Considering that the Atrium is a 5 minute walk to the town center... it is a great value at $58 (my Hotelspoland.com price).

Karen, United States
My experience at this hotel was great!!!! The people were very helpful and friendly. They all spoke English well. The hotel was clean and is in a good location as it close to the town center.

I had left my glasses at the hotel by accident. I e-mailed the hotel. I received a e-mail within a couple of hours stating that they had found my glasses and would be happy to ship them to me. They packaged them very well and ship them to me at no charge.

The only thing left to say, is that the next time I am in Krakow, I will stay at Hotel Atrium.

Mr R Arme, United Kingdom
Hotel was immaculate, based on a Scandinavian style. The hotel was in an ideal location for sightseeing. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast offered a good choice and range of food.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a visit to Kracow.

Diana, United States
The location is excellent! Within very easy walking distance of the old town. It was easy to use the hotel as a stopping off and dropping off place throughout a day of shopping and sight-seeing. Bus tours leaving to the salt mine and to Auschwitz start in the square right around the corner. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and friendly with a very strong command of English. Our room was very clean and nicely designed; the only problem was its size. Although some of the other rooms appeared to be larger, ours was quite small. Breakfasts are substantial in very pleasant surroundings.

Julie, United Kingdom
The hotels is in a very convenient location. Large room allocated to us, very clean, nice breakfast. Made the stay in Krakow even better.

Jason, Australia
Hotel Atrium is a new Hotel and excellent value for money. The rooms are 4 four standard. Hotel food was good, 4 minutes walk to railway station and located in the main streets of Krakow.

John, United Kingdom
The hotel is just a five minute walk from the centre. It is clean and modern and well worth the money.

Nick, United Kingdom
Very good location, clean rooms, beds very comfortable, although 401 has no
window, only a skylight. Food at breakfast very good did not try other meals. Staff
although helpful when asked not very foward in helping, would be very useful if
they had brochures on tours in and around Krakow on he front desk. TV although
many chanels no English progmars another than news. A very quite area at night.

james, United Kingdom
Just outside the old town but an easy 4 or 5 minute walk. A new smart hotel in a quiet street. Spotless and very clean with helpful staff. Breakfast was the usual and ordinary continental. Recommended.

Jeff, United States
Five. It was great. The desk help was great in helping us get to our attractions and made our stay a lot of fun. Our rooms were ready on time and the service was great. We will stay here again if we return to Krakow.

anonymous, Italy
The hotel is located 5 minutes walking from the central square. The rooms furniture is very essential!

Scott and Mike, United States
This hotel had an excellent staff and accommodations. The room and hotel in gerneral, was very clean. The location is an easy 5 minute walk, along streets filled with shops on your way to the main square.

Duncan Todd, United Kingdom
The Hotel was kept spotless and the room was comfortable and attractive, with the use of chrome and light wood. Perfectly adequate self service type breakfast. Enjoyed our stay there and would have no problems with recommending it for other travellers.

Paul M. van den Boogaard, The Netherlands
I would like to give this hotel four bananas (why not apples!) since the hotel is nicely located near the "stare miasto" and the nice and friendly staff in the hotel. I give not 5 bananas because the hotel is difficult to find for foreign or even Polish travellers who do not know Krakow.

Thanks for your help Caroline1. I am still unsure which to go for as the reviews are equally good for both, but the fact that the Europejski is so close to the railway station might sway me to that one, although sometimes I find this might be a 'dodgy' area.
