Hotel Duquesne or Le Tourville in Paris?

We are going to Paris soon for 4 nights and considering these two hotels. In the past, we have stayed in the 6th or in the 7th on the edge of the 6th, but considering a change of pace. We are familiar generally with the neighborhood and the wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood of Duquesne & Le Tourville but are wondering if these hotels are too remote for getting to the major museums. (I recently broke my knee and will be in a full leg brace) Also, which of these is better? The website for Duquesne does not seem to be very up to date - have any of you stayed there recently? thank you in advance

If you are familiar with the neighborhood, what don't you know about where it is? I'm just not clear on what information you are asking that you don't know. There is a metro stop there, and bus lines. Being in a full leg brace probably means you'd be taking taxis or something, though, wouldn't it? I would expect that would be true anywhere you stay, I imagine you couldn't be walking to the major museums even if you were staying within 1 km of them, could you?

I will be able to walk a block, maybe 2 or 3, by then. I have been advised I should assume I will not be able to use the Metro (too many steps, etc), so will need to depend on buses and taxis. One question I have is whether staying in the Eiffel/Invalides area will feel isolating.

Although I am familiar with the neighborhood, I am not familiar with these two hotels.

I've stayed at the Duquesne probably 30-40 times and think highly of it. I've never felt it was in an isolated area; the Place Ecole Militaire and all kinds of shops, cafés, and restaurants are right there. It's not remote or on the fringes of Paris or anything. BUT I am a big walker and have never had constricted mobility. You'd have to walk almost 3 blocks to get to the métro and about the same to get to one of the bus lines (bus service from there is really easy). But that might be true of any hotel.

I haven't stayed at the Tourville, but I've gone inside and looked at it and it looks comparable to the Duquesne.

If you really are going to have issues with taking the métro and buses I think what you should be looking for is a hotel with a taxi stand within a block or so.

Is it realistic to expect to be able to get a taxi right at the hotel?

It's realistic if you call for a taxi or have the hotel call, but that usually entails a small extra fee. If you have the number for Taxis Bleus and email or text them, they'll come for free: http://www.taxis-bleus.com/

StCirq - thank you for the great taxi information.

I checked with the Duquesne - unfortunately, their elevator is being replaced and so is out of service! Do you know if there are cafes within a block or so of Hotel le Tourville?

Yes, JKM, there are plenty. And a very convenient bus stop.

We stayed at Le Tourville a few times, but have not stayed there since the early 2000s. We loved it. Great staff, terrific room and Tracy remembers she really loved the towels. It was only a couple of minute walk to nearest metro station (which means you are not far from most Paris places you will want to visit). Close walk to Rodin Museum, Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides and everyone's favorite street to disagree about...the rue Cler.

Nearby restaurants that we like near there have been Le Clos des Gourmets, La Fontaine de Mars, Le Florimond (favorite), Au Bon Accueil and L'Auberge Bressane.

Contacted Hotel Duquesne to book - their elevator is being
replaced and there will be no elevator service for at least a month! Not the hotel for a traveler with a broken leg but definitely will consider it next trip.

If you want to stay in that immediate vicinity, have a look at Hotel Eber Mars, Hotel le Walt, Hotel de la Bourdonnais, Hotel Splendid Tour Eiffel, all of which are much closer, within steps, of Place de l'Ecole Militaire. Ecole Militaire metro station has an esclator out. And, there are bus stops to all over. We much prefer the buses to the metro, anyway.

I've been in and out of those hotels when friends were staying within.

With limited mobility, I'm sure you know that every step will count, unless you plan to rely on taxis.

If you do stay at Hotel le Tourville, there is a taxi stand a few steps away on rue Chevert at the corner, so you wouldn't have to pay the extra fare involved when the hotel summons one for you by phone.
