Hotel de l'Abbaye

My husband and I are planning to stay at Hotel de l'Abbaye in the spring. Any suggestions on rooms? Location? Are standard rooms adequate or are the "larger" rooms really better? What are the showers like? Are they all handheld? Thanks.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel de l'Abbaye in Feb. 2002. We liked it very much. It was a short walk to St. Sulpice and St. Germain du Pres area. Our room was small (standard) but well appointed and adequate for our needs. We found our room to be quite acceptable. The marble bathroom had a combination tub and shower and heated towel rack. I don't remember that the shower was strictly handheld. The public areas are very nice with fresh flowers all around. The morning breakfast room is bright and cheery with wonderful pastries. There is a lovely patio area to enjoy in warmer weather. The staff could not have been nicer. They arranged tours, shuttle to airport and even served us an early breadkfast before our 7:00a.m. shuttle departed for CDG. We would definitely stay there again. Our trip was back in the good old days when there was a favorable exchange rate vs. the Euro. I think our room priced out around $165 per night.

The l'Abbaye has a definite following and I would advise that you try for your reservation ASAP so you won't be disappointed in the lack of availability.

It is a lovely hotel in every way.
