Hotel de la Porte Doree (Teacherlady?)

I'm posting a new thread for this since it might not be seen on the Small World thread. A couple of years ago my Mom sent me the Sacramento Bee article about this hotel and I've always wondered what it was like. Teacherlady said she's stayed there. I realize that it's in the 12th, but that's really a short metro trip to central Paris. For the price, it seems like such a great option.

Anyone stayed here? Any feedback?

Yes, Mimi... thanks!

Here are Teacherlady's comments from a previous trip report:

here's the scoop on the Porte Doree. It is far away from everything BUT that's okay because the metro is right outside the front door. I wanted to stay there because I heard the owner was from my hometown (and married a Frenchman and now manages the hotel with him) but we never met her. So because of that we were a little out of the way. However, it's really not that far. We wanted to see the Pere Lachaise cemetery (worth the trouble) and we were also leaving from the Paris Bercy train station (both close to the PD) so for us it was convenient. The interior of the hotel was lovely, wood floors with nice carpets, a nice sitting room, motion sensor lighting, friendly reception. The room itself was as nice as any room I've stayed in in Paris. (I've stayed at the Argenson and also the Muguet...the Porte Doree is right up there with them.) Potential problems are an evangelical church next door that had sing-alongs until very late at night (although it looked like fun and the people were nice), the hotel is over a subway and my husband swore he could hear it at night. The neighborhood is fine, there are lots of restaurants, a laundromat, fruit stands, etc. One thing there is not is any internet cafe.

I thought it might be useful to some of the posters who are looking for very inexpensive hotels in Paris. While the 12th isn't where most are looking to stay, it's still in Paris and it is an easy Metro trip to anywhere. 64 euro for a double is hard to find!

That's about all I can remember but post again if you have any specific questions. All in all, it was a pleasant place to stay in a nice part of town far from everything but easy to get to the action!

Excellent description, and thanks for the information, Teacherlady and GH. This sounds exactly like the type of hotel we like (especially the value), and I am putting it into my "next trip" e-folder. Thank you again.
