Hotel Athina in Santorini
Hi all,
Has anyone ever stayed at the Hotel Athina on Santorini? It looks as though you are perched on the edge of the earth!
How about any recommendations for the Greek Islands. Where was the best place you stayed? The best food? The most fun Greek folk dancing?

Gresh Galestrom:
You made me pull out the photo albums from our Greece Honeymoon of many years ago.
The name you gave sounded vaguely familiar...it was,as I said vaguely familiar however, it was not the name of the place where we stayed.
SO, since I have the 300 photos of Santorini album out I'll tell you what you want to know about Santorini.
We stayed at a great B&B called Theorenia...see, sounds the same...smile...any way it was awesome, edge of the earth location too...I sure was a skinny thing back then...
Our room was beautiful, large balcony, fantastic views and our Innkeeper was amazing. Everyday she gave us fresh fruit, fresh flowers and good wine as we were Newlyweds and in Greece Newlyweds are treated like royalty.
The beaches (Perissa & Lamari) were excellent and not crowded.
Akoritiri, the archeological site, was very interesting.
The Sphinx, Katrines,& Nicholas were WOW for dinners.
Franco's was a very special outdoor bar with a incredible view.
Our wine tasting at Santo Wines, Our donkey ride and our journey to take in the magnificant Oia sunset are special times that we will never forget...
We were in Greece/The Islands for 6 weeks for our honeymoon. All of the islands that we traveled to and Athens
were magical, had delicious food and provided us with ample opportunities to see or participate in really fun Greek folk dancing and more...
Ok, next...

Hi Oaktown,
Wow...six whole weeks in Greece! You MUST have fabulous pics and memories.
Do you think a 20th anniversary could score some of that great treatment you two received?
We are thinking of one week in Greece at the end of a two week trip in Italy but haven't decided yet if that will be a little too much. Having never been I want to do it all, of course, but really don't want a frantic trip. Italy is a must first (the hub is Italian).
I LOVE Greek food and really appreciate your recommmendations.
Curious...Oaktown in the Bay Area? We used to have some fun, good greek restaurants/night clubs years ago in the Bay Area but all have sadly gone away. So I go to every Greek Festival I can!

Your welcome...glad I could help.
I think a 20th Anniversary will probably generate royal treatment too!
Hmmmm. Two weeks in Italy and one in Greece...I would do it. I am one of those travelers who packs it all in, does "too much" and all those other things that make some folks heads spin.
Take 3 to 4 days in Santorini and then fly to one other Greek Island for 3 or 4 days...Rest on the plane ride home.
Yes, I am in the lovely Bay Area and I too try to go to as many Greek Festivals as I can find.
Happy Planning!

Hi Oaktown Traveler,
Thanks again for your input. I just want to be able to see all I can in the three weeks we have allotted.
I did find a great website for Greece
http://www.greecetravel.com/. Check it out!
I figure Athens on the front and back end of the week with 2-3 day trips to the islands.
