Hotel Amadeus,Seville question

We will be flying into Seville. Can someone who has done this and stayed at Hotel Amadeus tell me the best way to get to the hotel?

We took the train into Seville, and caught a cab to the hotel - suspect you could do the same from the airport (cabs are quite inexpensive in Spain). The driver wasn't familiar with the hotel and had to ask a fellow cab driver for directions. Realize that the Amadeus is on a tiny street that cabs can't pull up to, so you'll need to walk a few hundered feet from the cab to the front door.

We just returned from Spain and stayed at the hotel Amadeus. However, we arrived at the train station and took a cab to the hotel. The cab driver was not familiar with the hotel but we gave him the address and had a map from the train station and he found the way. The hotel entrance is in an alley that cars cannot travel so the taxi will drop you off on the side street.

Did either of you fly in? Then did you train it to center and then cab it? Are you suggesting we take a train to the center and if so, is there a train station at the airport and what station in Seville do we get off at?

I came in on the AVE train from Madrid. We took a cab to the hotel. I picked up a map of Sevilla at the train station and located the Hotel on it - it's in Barrio Santa Cruz which isn't that big, so it won't take too long to locate on the map. I was glad I did as the cab driver didn't know which street it was. However, with my map, he found it in a jiffy.

We met friends in Sevilla who flew in from London. They didn't get a map and their driver took them on a scenic tour (to say the least) and then dropped them off in Barrio Santa Cruz. They then found the place on their own. Their experience wasn't that great.

So if it were me, I'd pick up a city map at the airport - I don't know, but I'd guess there is some sort of tourist information office, then locate the hotel and circle the street. Then give it to your cab driver after you state where you are headed. Hopefully, this will get you there without any hassles. If you search I think someone may have stated how much a cab sould cost from the airport - I think it is around 18-23 euros, but I am not certain as I came from the train station.

Best wishes!

Bashful,

I flew into sevilla a couple of yrs. ago and then took a cab into the city. It's not very far. Can't recall what I paid but I don't think it was more than $20.
You can go to www.maporama.com( it's like mapquest) and input the address of the hotel and it will show where in the city it is. Take the map with you and show it to the cab driver in case he doesn't know where the Amadeus is. Good luck

Bashful, we took the AVE train from Madrid to Seville. There is no train from the airport to the center of town. If you come by plane you need to take a taxi to the hotel. It is in the Barrio Santa Cruz area off of Fabiola (street). That is the street the taxi will probably drop you off and then you look up the alley which is Calle Farnesio (street). The tourist center at the airport should have a map. We found the maps did us no good in Seville, we just wondered around a lot and had a great time. The flamenco at Los Gallos was great and that is close to the hotel. We also took a tour with Concepcion Delgado, a Rick Steeves recommendation and she gave us a great outline of the district. If you have enough people she can also do a tour of the cathedral and the Alcazar with her. Have a great time in Seville.

I just did that a couple weeks ago -- I just took a cab, it's not really that far. I was not taken for a ride, perhaps because I speak some Spanish and am not usually perceived as a patsy by cab drives (have never had a problem, anywhere, even in Mexico). I paid 22 euro. My driver knew where it was, although I didn't describe it exactly as "Hotel Amadeus", but I gave the street name and sort of directions as I knew it from the map. He even knew where the street was without me explaining too much (c/Farnesio near plaza Santa Maria la Blanca is what I said).

I don't know if this is true or not, but a friend of mine claimed you negotiate fares in Seville for taxis, that this was the norm. I asked some young women on the flight (from London) who lived in Seville, and they said all the cabs they ever took in Seville had meters. Actually, all the ones I ever took in the city were metered, so don't know what my friend was talking about, EXCEPT the guy at the airport said it was a fixed fare of 22 euro from the airport. Seemed okay to me, so I said "bueno".

I don't know if that is really taxi/city regulations or that guy's rule, but that gives you an idea.

oh, by the way, I think it is a good idea to have a map with the hotel's address on it, maybe your driver won't know the area as well as mine. But you don't have to go to any other place to get one, or get a city map -- there is a printable map right on Amadeus' web site with the immediate area and the hotel marked. That should be sufficient.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess from your comments, taxi is the way to go. I know previous comments coming from Barcelona airport suggest we should take the airport bus and then taxi but I assume that's because it's a lot more expensive??
