Hotel Academie - Paris , anyone?
Hi again, it's being difficult to choose a hotel in Paris but this one looks very nice on the web and isn't that expensive.
Has anyone stayed there? Is it good and do you recommend it or just so so? Any comments are appreciated.

I have not, although I know it's a great location. I just wanted to warn you there are two hotels in Paris with that name, so you'd better be sure which one you and others are talking about. One is a 3* hotel on rue des Saints Pere in the 7th with AC and the other is a very cheap 1* hotel at the bottom of the 6th (named Hotel des Academies).

You probably viewed the one in the 7th as it's on a lot of web sites. If you haven't noticed, one great thing about it is that it gives the largest off-season discounts (about 33%) I've ever seen by a hotel, and for one with AC in St-Germain, it's a very good deal. It's really a good deal from mid-July through August because of that, rates go from about 200 euro to 130 euro for a double.

Christina, thank you very much for your information. Yes, the one I refered to is the Hotel de L'Academie, in St Germain des Pres. I saw that they have a promotion and after comparing prices with others in the same area and number of stars I am tempted to book it. The only thing is that I don't have any feedback of anyone who has stayed there. It doesn't appear in the Fodors rants and raves. Thanks again

Three positive editorial reviews here (and one negative one from a guest which I would take with a grain of salt):
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d197478-Reviews-Academie_Hotel-Paris_Ile_de_France.html

You might find other reviews by typing "hotel academie paris" into Google.com or a similar search engine.

For some reason, I haven't seen a lot of comments on that hotel from people who've stayed there. For that price in that location, I wouldn't think you could go too far wrong (if you are getting the discounted rate).

There is one comment and a good review on digital.france.com/hotels

and they say it got some citation as best charming hotel in 1999. I don't know what to make of the complaint on Tripadvisor. I gather it was someone who booked via a booking site where you had to prepay and then they were charged 1/2 day's rate for arriving the next morning instead of night before, so I'm not sure what the complaint was, as that seems normal, and then they stayed there four more nights. Who knows -- maybe they had some FAX miscommunication problem.

Chistina, many thanks again, you've been helping me a lot.Remember? You also helped me choosing my hotel in Provence, L'Hermitage, which I booked for this trip already. I am going to Provence some days and then spending the last 3 nights in Paris.

I will be traveling with my adult son and daughter and we will have a deluxe room with an extra bed (standard rooms don't take extra beds). The room tarif with the promotion will be 199 Euros , plus 30 euros for the extra bed. Breakfasts are not included in the price so it won't be so cheap but I don't mind paying that if the hotel is good. Did you see it on the website? It looks charming.
Yes, that bad review from the person didn't appeal much to me either. I think I'm going to bet on it nevertheless .
Thanks again

hi, tere -- did you find the Hermitage okay? I remember there was one post asking me which Hermitage it was, as they thought it was in Uzes -- but the one I knew was not, it is in Pernes les Fontaines (although I think that was someone else asking).

I didn't think 199 euro was the promotional rate, although it may be compared to some real peak season, unless you are getting the deluxe room or suite and then that's lower. Of course, if you aren't going in the time period of the promotion, what can you do. I probably wouldn't pay for that breakfast at 15 euro as there should be plenty of cafes nearby you might like for that. Of course, you can decide that when you get there and see what it is.

Christina, I booked the Hermitage in Pernes Les Fontaines but I will only stay there next September. Like I told you, I will spend some days in the Provence and then the last days in Paris.
The Hermitage looks lovely and I am paying 82 euros for a triple room plus breakfast. It's a very good price and I'm looking forward to being there.
Thanks again for all your help
