Maria,
Try the message board at www.madridman.com and the Grafitti board for the Spain/Portugal Rick Steves guide at
www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/graffiti66.html
I've seen the Tijcal mentioned on both-some negative reviews on Rick Steves.

Hi María. (Angel, thanks for the "pointer")

I just did a SEARCH on our message board and found the following (among others) posting of feedback about Hostal TIJCAL (web: http://www.HostalTijcal.com ):

[quote]
posted 01-05-2001:
Just came back after spending 6 nights in this hostal. I had a double room with private bathroom for 7.750 ptas. If you pay in cash they'll give you a 5% discount. The reception area is on the 3rd floor and there is a lift. After the reception area there was another set of stairs that we had to go through to get to our room.
The room and bathroom were clean. It had the bed, an armoire, 2 chairs, a nightstand, another small table with a safe (100ptas to use), and a small balcony with a street view (calle Zaragoza). You could also see one of the entrances to the Plaza Mayor. The bed, a matrimony bed, was kind of hard (firm), but it was the biggest in size from all the other hotels that I stayed in (Plaza D'ort in Madrid, La Rábida in Sevilla, and Maciá Gran Vía in Granada).

This hostal used to be Hostal Montalvo and aparently it has been recently renovated and the name changed to T.I.J.C.A.L, an acronym for something which I forgot.
Excellent location and staff.
[end quote]
-------

Saludos, MadridMan
---
Visit MadridMan's Yankee Home Page &
MadridMan's ALL SPAIN (NOT just Madrid!) Thanks Madridman/Angel for your replies,
I heard baout this hostal from Margo classe's book "Hello Spain". I'm glad you gave it good reviews. I am still trying to decide whether I want to stay in a hostal or in a hotel. I found rates for Tryp Capitol that are even cheaper than this hostal & I am considering this as my best option.
Any thoughts on this hotel?
Thank you,
Maria
