Hostal bargain in barcelona??

I have a reservation for a hostal in Barcelona which is $60.00 a night. I always thought that a hostal would be cheaper than a hotel. I have searched on every site and unable to come up with anything cheaper closer to the main attractions.

I believe hostel prices vary greatly depending on the type of accomodations and location. $60. is cheaper than most hotels.

A hostal would be cheaper. My daughter was recently there and stayed at a hostal in the Bari Gothic district. Just goggle "international youth travel" or "youth hostals europe" and you'll come up with a bunch of them.

In Spain there is a difference between hostal and hostel. A hostal is a small pensione type hotel not a youth hostel. You can find both on www.madridman.com The website has a Barcelona section. Also try www.eurocheap.com
www.hostalopera.com
www.hostalgirona.com
www.hostalpalacios.com are three that I have seen recommended on Fodor's but keep in mind these are hotels not youth hostels.

thanks for the suggestions. I didn't do my homework to see that their was a difference between hostal and hostel. I guess that we did get a good rate.

You can visit www.hostelz.com or www.bookhostels.com. If you want to pay under 25 euros, you will be sharing a room with 4-10 people and the bathroom may be down the hall. Great way to meet people. I had the room to myself from midnight to 5:00 a.m. Everyone else went out to party.

foxyroxy,

Which hostal have you booked? The chances are that someone here will know it.

$60.00 is surely cheaper than a hotel You only can have a hotel on this price with a weekend offer but never during the week, at least, in big cities.

foxyroxy,

If memory serves me right your Hostal is on a side street just off Las Ramblas so you're going to be right in the heart of it.

Have you seen the reviews on tripadvisor? If not you're in for a pleasant surprise as it is ranked Number 1 in the smaller hotel/hostal category. Here's a link;

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Catalonia.html

It's a fantastic city and I'm sure that you'll have a great time there. Remember to post back here on your return and let us know how you got on.
