We are going to Europe for the first time for our honeymoon next May. We are going for 21 days. We are planing on visiting the following places: London, Paris, Switzerland, Vienna, Munich, Amsterdam, and Belgim. We will be flying in and out of London. How long do people suggest we stay in each city and what do you think of the order we are visiting the cities? Any comments or suggestions?

You are planning to visit 7 places in 21 days. That gives you no more than 3 days per place.

Since you will lose at least 4 days in travel, plus your first and last days, you have oly 2 days per place.

This is not a honeymoon. It is an expedition.

I strongly urge you to reconsider your itinerary.

I can understand the temptation as a first time visitor to Europe to want to see and do as much as you can but you want a honeymoon to be a joy not an episode of "The Race"

I would suggest that 4 cities from the 7 would be the ideal plan working on 4 days sightseeing in each and then allowing a day for travel. Obviously London would be one of those bearing in mind your flight plans. I would encourage you to then consider Paris (city of romance), Geneva or Zurich for seeing Switzerland (a truly magical country) and then Amsterdam (a much underrated city with its beautiful canals, architecture and museums) - an alternative to Amsterdam on a smaller scale would be Bruges in Belgium.

Good luck with planning this and most of all have fun with the research. You will need to make sure you don't overplan each day too. For example in London doing more than the Tower of London and St Pauls Cathedral in one day would be exhausting especially when on a honeymoon when your focus may not necessarily be on the glorious buildings

Thanks for the advice. I kinda expected people would say that we were planning to visit too many places I have already opted to remove Belgim. My fiancee is really keen to visit Munich and London and Paris are a must. Which city would you recommend between Vienna and Geneva? We will be travelling around Europe by train.

FROM EXPERIENCE: After a wedding event what a couple will be screaming for will be relaxation. Pick three home bases max. The first one on a countryside/lake for 5 days minimum, i.e. fly into London and head out to the Lakes District. Sightsee London on your way back. Take the Eurostar and head out to Paris, train to Brussels for a couple of days. Train back to London, sightseeing, fly back home.
