Home Base..Hague & Delft
Sorry for the second thread.......but was wondering if anyone could suggest a good base for visiting the Hague and Delft. We would like to stay in either town but are undecided since both sound so wonderful. I like the fact that Delft is more picturesque but am a little worried we might be missing all the action of museums and beautiful architecture of the Hague. We are a young married couple looking for some romance. Could you please make some suggestions my dear fodorites?
Thanks!
Thanks!

In fact it doesn't matter where you're staying as both places are only 12 min. (by train) apart.
I personally would prefer to stay in Delft as it's much more picturesque than Den Haag, which is more of a business city.

Within last four years, I have stayed at Hotel Palies in Den Haag twice as base for touring around. As previous post mentioned, the two cities are minutes apart by tram ride; but there are more events to attend in the evening in Den Haag.
Hotel Palies is a recently renovated,mid-priced hotel in town centre, behind the Palace, 10 minutes walk from Central train station.

The Hague has a lot more going for it because it is much bigger. Even though it is a capital city, The Hague is a very pleasant city with lots to do and few tourists. If you have a week or more to stay you might consider Leiden or Haarlem as a base. The train system is excellent and you can use these cities as a base to visit everything in Holland.

Are you a young married couple with a big budget? Then Hotel Des Indes (The Hague)is definitely the most romantic...
However, Delft is an excellent option because it is small, charming and more relaxing. The 'action' of the museums and architecture in The Hague & Rotterdam, Leiden & even Amsterdam is only a short train ride away. For a nice small hotel in Delft, try a canal-front room at Hotel Leeuwenbrug or Hotel de Ark, or the Best Western chain Hotel Prinsenhof. Go out for dinner at the excellent Prinsenkelder in Delft (underneath the royal lodgings of William of Orange), or try L'Escalier. There are many, many charming and cheaper places as well (remember, Delft is a university town!).

How charming! Thank you jenviolin for suggesting an inn in Delft. I will check it out on the web (if they have a website). Still though I'm up in arms..I suppose I should read a bit more about each town/city in order to make up my mind.
Thank you all for the great suggestions and Happy New Year!
