LLindaC---can you give a website for the Val d'Anniviers hiking arrangements? I Googled and found a number of commercial tours, but not the one offered by the tourist bureau itself. I looked at the photos and it looks lovely. Thank you.

Is this a chat room? I thought someone asked about that and the answer was "No". Anyway, krissykris, I am new too and don't know the rules here, but I think it's simple courtesy to thank people for the effort they put into responses. Ingo gave you a nice response and plan for hiking, and you never thanked him or responded or asked for more details or anything. You just ignored his answer and started a new question, and then another. If I may say, I think you need to do some research, maybe on the internet or get a book that people have recommended, and then you'll be able to ask informed questions. It seems to me you haven't really even looked at a map or the train schedules or you wouldn't ask some of these questions. I've been following all of your questions because I am interested in learning about Switzerland too, but I've also looked at the schedules and websites recommended and found lots of information that you could have found too. I feel like I could have planned the trip for you now myself! I don't get it.

Hi Nora, I have four books, and am working with two travel agents. I am planning the hut to hut hiking, cinque terre, Tuscany and florence all at the same time and with the language problems have gotten frustrated and confused. I believe I did thank everyone for their contributions and have made several myself to those planning Caribbean travel.. I don't know all the foreign words and hikes provided so I have to look them up in the book so as not to get too confused. I'm sorry that you feel I've been such a pain. If you felt that way, why did even bother to respond?

Krissy, Ingo did respond on your "Hut to Hut Hiking" question, back in February. It looks like a great trip---we may try it ourselves!

I thought Ingo's response was extremely thorough with alot of substance. It's too bad that krissykris missed it.

Ahhhh---I think I see the problem. Possibly Krissy did not know how to find old posts with the answers to her questions---they get buried pretty quickly. So she may not have ever seen the answers to her early questions---or even Barbmike's earlier instructions on finding her old threads.

Krissy, just "click" on your name---the underlined one (usually in blue) right after "author" at the beginning of your question that started the discussion. All your posts---both the ones you started, and the ones where you gave an answer---will appear on the left side. They are in chronological order, with the oldest last, at the bottom. You'll see the "Hut-to-Hut Hiking" at the bottom, along with a question about lodging in Grindelwald, etc. Maybe there's some information there you can use.

Enzian, you're so very nice as I hope she follows your instructions.Maybe this is why she keeps starting new threads and sometimes on the same topic. I think she should start over again and maybe consider Austria. Mike

Enzian, thank you for showing me how all of this works. I have since found Ingo's response and responded. Some people have been less than kind with their responses. I was on my honeymoon in Bora Bora last week, and apparently didn't see some of the delayed responses to my end of February post. Thank you again.

I actually responded on another one of your posts, but it looks like this is the one where you are focused.

In 2003, we had a nice stay at Hotel Gletschergarten in Grindelwald. Great mountain views, spacious room and a pretty nice dinner, too.

The people at the hotel are very friendly and gave us numerous options of where to hike, get trains and gondolas, etc.

Good and relatively inexpensive fondue at restaurant in Hotel Eiger in Grindelwald.

I just read your other post on the Caribbean forum that says you're going to Barbados. Have you switched from Switzerland/Italy to Barbados or is this another trip? Mike

Barbmike, I travel alot. I just returned from Bora Bora, am going to Barbados in April, Orlando in August, Switzerland/Italy in August-September,Kauai in October and Grand Cayman in November. I'm pretty comfortable planning most of my trips generally, but the Europe one I've found a bit tricky especially with the language issues. I only speak English/Spanish. I know alot about Belize, Cook Islands, Tahiti, Mexico,Australia, Grand Cayman and Hawaii but not so much about Europe. I have timeshares so this is generally how I find good lodging, but it's not easily done with Europe. My first trip to Europe was September, we loved it. Greek Islands is fabulous.
I also generally am planning more than one trip at a time. Thanks for asking. Did you need some suggestions? Our families have been just about everywhere, but its been a while for any of us to visit Switzerland and Northern Italy.

My husband and I loved our month in Wengen last September and are returning this year. We rented an apartment with a spectacular view. Wengen gave excellent access to the Lauterbrunnen Valley via trains and lifts. The cost of these can add up, but you can buy a Swisspass as well as other discount options depending on the length of your stay. Wengen is car free, so tranquil and lovely. All levels of hiking available. We hiked almost every day for a month and did not repeat.
