HOLOCAUST SCULPTURES

I was talking with someone today and she mentioned visiting a large (?) sculpture on the outskirts of Prague that was a memorial to the Holocaust. Is anyone familiar with this?

I checked these websites--thank you--I think I may have to get in touch with the person that was talking about the sculpture and see if I can get more info as I'm not sure this is what she was talking about.
We have the Jewish quarters booked for a tour on our upcoming trip but you have provided me with some very interesting additional info on the Holocaust. If I find out something different than what you've given me I will pass it along.

It would have helped if I had been told it was a memorial to Communism and not the Holocaust

My friend sent me this link--this is what she was talking about. I had not heard of it before.

in all my trips to Prague I have never seen that momument, will make sure i see it on my next trip.
the website that your friend gave a link to is one of the most useful around ,have a good look at it as it covers just about all you need to know for a trip to Prague.
I did a tour of the Jewish area a couple of years ago on a very cold winters day,a very moving experience.
It can get very busy in the jewish area and all the tickets have timed entrance periods on it.as you are on an organised tour this will not be a problem,I would normally say enjoy the tour but I think in this case i would have to say Take in the Experience. It was one of these experinces that i just felt it was wrong to take photographs,I don't know why but I just did not feel right swinging my camera to my face and taking shots.
Btw I a neither Jewish or religious.

I ended up going through the whole website and got quite a lot of info from it that I hadn't seen elsewhere. I also was reading on a site (not sure how I got onto it) about the Jewish quarters/synagogues and there was a section on the rules for touring this area. Apparently if you want to take photos then you have to pay to do it. I'm like you though and don't think photos are appropriate for some places. We are Jewish (I'm a convert)but not particularly religious so have a keen interest in this tour.
We are going to try and get to the Communism memorial as well.

you will find quite a few places in the Czech Republic will charge you for taking pictures and vidoes, they usually give you a little sticker to put on your jacket to show you have paid.the fee is pretty low 20-30czk usually.
this is a common practise amoung the former communist countries.
I alway reccomend that website as it contains some great info.
this is another good general info site that may be of use to you.
