hiring a car UK is it cheaper to hire from home or wait?

Hi

Any thoughts on whether it is cheaper to hire a car over in the UK for 2 weeks or orgaqnise it from here in Australia. Pros? cons?

regards

I always hire before I leave Oz janine1 and always use www.driveaway.com.au - they are always competitive price wise but their prices are fully inclusive with no hidden extras to pay when you pick up the car etc.

I've used them for car hire in France, Switzerland and the USA. I have never had any problems whatsoever and the cars have all been in good condition and what was expected.

And I always like to get as many costs out of the way before I leave.

Its always cheaper to prebook your rental car before you leave. The further out from your date the cheaper it will be.

Walk up rental rates in the UK will normally be 50% higher or more -- definitely pre-book

Janine1:

Organize your hire car before you take your holiday.

We have used http://www.novacarhire.com many times. You are placed with a major car hire firm and there are no hidden charges.

I've just booked a Vauxhall Astra for this coming Sunday for 7 days $303US with Europcar

When I checked out the novacarhire website - to make sure I'd got a good deal? They were quoting $496US for the same dates, same car. When I changed the dates to 2 weeks out? The price stayed the same.

Europcar do also offer a discount if you pay online, rather than booking the car and paying when you collect the car.

It is worth shopping around
