The 1000 Euro per week sounds reasonable for a car and driver. Check that that includes mileage.
If regular car rental is 50-150 Euro per day (depending upon size and location etc.) then 142 Euro per day including the driver looks good. Presuming this is a reputable quote (registered and insured firm). Would be interested in the name of the company.

There are 4 of us going and we want to enjoy ourselves and not worry about one of us driving. Because we want to see as much as we can we figured having a car service would be best way to do as much and see as much as we could in the short amount of time. The price has thrown us for a loop though!

Hello,
Still not really sure why you need a car. Are you going to be in Rome? Are you going to travel around the country? Are you interested in doing daytrips from Rome or another city? With a little more information, we will be able to give you a better answer.

€1000 a week for a car that can seat four passengers and their luggage as well as a driver sounds like a gift horse whose mouth needs very, very careful inspection.
At that price, I'd want to hear about mileage, petrol, overtime and driver hotel room rates. Precisely what make of car and the size of its boot. And above all, the legality and insurance of the driver and the vehicle.
I'd also post the company's name here to find out if other people have discovered the hard way how they're doing it at the price.

PS,
I checked the price of a standard size car at www.autoeurope.com - it's about $700 and up.
I would be very leery of a driver who wants only $1300 to chauffeur you around for a week.
