They offer a deal similar to the one given by the Paddington.

The reviews for the Euston are a bit spottier on Tripadvisor than the Paddington. Would the Euston area be a better choice?

We stayed one night at the Paddington Hilton last year and the hotel was fine. The breakfast was excellent. I wasn't crazy about the location for walking around, but we wanted to be by the HEX for the night.

Last month, I Priceline'd a 4 star and got the Kensington Forum Holiday Inn for $135 plus taxes. Right near the Gloucester Road tube stop. Comfortable enough, but tiny room with a low ceiling.

The Hilton was nicer, but I still don't care for the area.

You will get different opinions, but I'd consider the Hilton Euston to be a much better location than the Paddington, notwithstanding the HE's fairly close proximity to Kings Cross. It's very close to the sights in the Bloomsbury area, and very close to buses and tubes that will get you most everywhere else in minutes. I happily stayed a couple blocks away.

Price looks attractive though I haven't stayed there so cannot comment on the room size or service levels. As others mentioned, don't bother with dining there--there are so many other places you can eat close by, including countless Lebanese places along Edgeware Rd. There is M&S simply food and mini Sainsbury within the station complex. The area is quite safe at night.

You CAN walk to both Hyde Park and Little Venice though I won't walk along the canal at night. Aside from tube, #15 and #7 are good bus routes--takes about 10-15min to Marble Arch.

That's a good rate. We paid 115 GBP for one night and paid for remaining stay with Hilton points in March 2007 for 4 nights. It's a very nice place. Staff was wonderful. We loved how it is connected to Paddington Station which has a Starbucks, Krispy Kremes, full grocery store, drugstore, sushi place, etc. You don't have to buy food from hotel, especially if you just want to get fruit or beverages. Fridge in room has space to put such things. It was nice to just run downstairs and grab things without having to go outside. We definitely will stay here again next time we're in London.

Guess I don't understand the need to have 2 hotels booked and you are still looking. Why book if you aren't staying. Seems like a waste of time for you and the hotel, or are you just planning a few nights at different hotels? ps, nothing wrong with the Paddington area. I have stayed a few times in the area and it worked for me.

the best way to Little Venice and canals is to walk THROUGH Paddington train station .( there is a sign)
There is a whole complex of new office building , apartments , restaurants and a pub right by the water.
We walked there several times ( day and night) - a lot of people , totally safe and very lovely ( more like Amsterdam than London).

Well when I saw you had a reservation at the Morgan at 105 pounds a night I was interested. Morgan is a nice hotel, run by a nice family, but IMO not worth that kind of money if you can book Hilton for the same or less. Several years ago I was a semi-regular at the Morgan, staying 3-4 times a year, 2-4 days at a time. It was inexpensive at the time compared to the big chains - I think the most I ever payed was about 35-40 pounds.

I know the Morgan has been updated recently but the rooms (unless you have booked one of the flats which I doubt for 105) will still be small, there will still be no lift, and the bathrooms will be tiny. Do not take this wrong, I love the family that runs the Morgan but in today's market the price they are charging is just way too much if you can book a Hilton for less.

Rogeroktm - I agree that tying up two hotels with a reservation is generally selfish. In this case I have reserved an 80£ and a 105£ room because I am worried about the devaluation of the dollar. If this slide continues I will take the cheaper Rhodes, if the dollar strengthens I will go for the Morgan. In any case I will cancel with plenty of time to allow someone else to make the reservation. I really try to be a considerate traveler.

Reisender - It sounds like you would not recommend the Morgan for 105£. I called the Hilton for clarification of prices and they stated that WIFI is $30/day. What a rip-off. That seems to leave me with the Rhodes.

Hm - there are Hiltons and Hiltons. IMO the name has been greatly devalued and some of them are no better than a Travelodge. The Hilton Paddington I would rate as a medium-class business-type chain hotel.

I think that 105 is too price for the Morgan yes. I hate to say it as the family that owns it is wonderful. But for that money you can do better

caroline and Reisender - You both seem to know London well. Would you go with the Hilton Paddington and that area or the Hilton Euston and that area?

I lived in London for 10 years and still visit once or twice a year, although there are of course other posters here who live there now.

Personally I'd prefer to stay in Paddington rather than Euston. I find the Euston area quite depressing, although I can see why others might find parts of Paddington depressing. Maybe it's just because I'm more used to Paddington. The selection of tube lines at Paddington seems more useful to me; but as I warned before, I'm probably not visiting the same areas a 'proper' tourist would be, if you see what I mean. It just happens to be a coincidence that the last time I was down, I stayed at the Hilton Paddington - but I chose it over similarly-priced properties in the Euston area.

My first choice for a budget-ish option would usually be the County Hall Travel Inn. However since the CHTI was £99, the Paddington Hilton was £63 and I was planning to meet a friend near Marylebone, I decided to try the PH and was pleased with my choice.

OK,I checked the County Hall Travel Inn, the price is 114.5gbp/night with an additional 15gbp/night for breakfast, so 129gbp which comes to $269/night. Ouch
The prepay Hiltons are looking better with each passing day! Also by prepaying I will avoid any additional dollar devaluation.
