Hiking 4-5 days in the French Pyrenees in late March

Hi,

A friend and I are looking for a through hike or series of day hikes of 4-5 days in one of the three French Pyrenees national parks (Pyrenees, Aričgoises or Catalan), the last week of March (23-28th).

I'm aware that the weather will vary from year to year, but I'm wondering if someone could tell me what to expect in this period? We are fine not going up to the highest altitudes and peaks of course, if these are inaccessible and because of the risk of avalanches. But how does it look in the valleys and lower altitudes? Are any of the trails open?

We both live in Scandinavia and have been hiking here in the late fall, so we are used to cold and rough conditions. The question is more about accessibility on the trails, or if they are even open. Either of the three parks is fine for us, if one is easier to get to or if the conditions are expected to be better.

Also, how easy is it to get to the parks without having to rent a car? I saw there were trains, but information is a little sparse... Considering where we're flying from, the absolutely cheapest and most accessible option is to fly to Toulouse. Can we go to the parks from there by train or bus?

Thanks!

The GR 10 is highly recommended, but you probably wouldn't be doing all 900 kilometres of it.

Did you all end up doing your trip in March? How was it? I'm trying to find out if it's possible to hike from Boltaņa to Pau. Any thoughts or resources on whether this would be possible?

Cheers!

Welcome to Fodors rararex. It is usually a good idea to check the dates on threads. This topic is 4 years old and the OP (vicjun) only ever posted this one time and never returned. It would be better if you start a new thread of your own with your specific questions.
