Before we went to Paris for the month of May, 2008 a friend gave us the small book "Quiet Corners of Paris," which has information and a photo or two for more than 75 gardens, courtyards, etc. in all 20 arrondissements. We visited more than half of them and found almost every one pleasant, interesting, and well worth the time. Often it was surprising to find a tucked-away gem in unexpected surroundings. The author is Jean-Christophe Napias, and the publisher is The Little Bookroom.

Left out one of my favorites, Parc de Bercy, near the Palais Omnisports de Paris. There is a rose garden, a labyrinth and a most charming vegetable garden maintained by the school children of Paris. Metro stops are Bercy and St. Emilion. Bercy Village borders Parc de Bercy, with bars and cafés in the old wine warehouses. It's a delightful place to spend an afternoon. Here are some photos of Parc de Bercy, as well as some of Jardin des Plantes, Versailles, Vaux le Vicomte, also favorites of mine: http://gardentouring.fotopic.net/c790134.html

Bercy Village is very convenient to the Metro and has a lot of interesting shops, but the cafes and restaurants seem expensive (compared with elsewhere is Paris) for what you get. We didn't walk through the Parc but looked into it on the way to the Metro stop--it did look interesting.
