I personally liked Herculaneum better than I liked the ruins at Castellamare di Stabia. Plus, the Herculaneum ruins are easier to get to from the Circumvesuviana train line, in my opinion.

The Herculaneum Archeological Part is a relatively short walk from the Ercolano stop on the Cirvumvesuvia Railroad. There is a lot of ancient city to see.

Castellamare di Stabia is more off the beaten path, requires more planning to get there and is much smaller than Ercolano.

Thank you-
i am also going to see Ostia outside Rome so i might be on "Archeology" overload after seeing Pompeii and maybe Herculaneum, AND Ostia.

Is there any better "outside" rome trip other than Ostia Antica?

Perhaps Tivoli - Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa...

i was thinking Herculaneum might be better than Pompeii too. Just because it's better preserved. But, I would get killed if i came home and didn't go to Pompeii. I am thinking- go to Herk, and skip Ostia.
Hadrians Villa is a good choice & maybe that ancient road w/ the graves along it (forgot the name).
