We have been in March, April, July and October. We have been very lucky to never have more than a day of rain, and then usually only very light, never a steady downpour. (I'm sure it happens.)
Take a waterproof coat and have a wonderful time!

There's a good reason that green is the national colour of Ireland - it rains! - and the country is all the more beautiful for it.
It may rain (actually it probably will) or it may not (lucky!) but you will still have a wonderful time. If the rain's heavy and you're worried about driving, pull into a pub and spend time meeting the locals until it stops (tip: if you're driving in the countryside and need to find a pub, look on the horizon for a church, there'll be plenty of pubs around it!)

jim: easily the very best months for weather, to visit ireland are may and september. we always have warm days and warm balmy evenings. the weather then is fab. unfortunately june july and august may get periods of heavy rain and not so good weather - not so bad either just not as good as may and september. plus if you go then you have the added bonus of travelling out of season - cheaper prices and not so crowded.
i live here and of course am not so tuned in to the weather of any particular month but what makes me aware that may and september are fab is that may is my husband's birthday and september is our anniversary and we have managed to have an outdoor bbq party on each occasion for many years.
mind you, december and january have been brilliant this year. today we were in town with no coats wandering around under turquoise skies and sunshine - wee bit chilly but no need for a coat and also in 2004 i have pics on my website taken in december of men out golfing in only their (short) shirt sleeves.
like the irish, our weather is unpredictable!
and remember, no-one comes to ireland for the weather. there is so much more to this country than lounging on our fabulous sandy beaches (where you might freeze to death!).
good luck and fine weather for your travels here!
